I plan to visit Co Tyrone in a few weeks time from New Zealand. Hopefully to trace something of my Ancestors who left in 1848. They seemed to reside in Cookstown, Stewartstown and Dungannon. Gt Grandparents being William Faulkner and Sarah Kelly married in the Brigh Presbyterian Church. I have seen that two of the children were Baptised in the same Church. Sarah’s Parent’s being Sarah Ross and David Kelly I have been unable to trace the Kelly or Ross family. Faulkner name seems very common in those areas. I have been to Proni in the past but no luck. Faulkner papers record a William, Hugh and Sam Faulkner but don’t appear to be related. So if any one on the list can help me here I would greatly appreciate it. William left Cookstown for Philadelphia in 1846 and died there shortly after in an accident. Haven’t even found him on a Passenger list Or the death record.. His Wife Sarah and Family emigrated to Victoria Australia, I have managed to find some info on her and some of her children. One little daughter died at sea on the voyage out. However wondering also if anyone could give me some advice as to the best place to stay to start digging into this hopeless task. I am not a young thing and won’t be driving, which makes it a little difficult. But I thought maybe I could get a train or bus from Dublin, or would it be easier from Belfast. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks from an Irish Kiwi Maryanne Bayliss
Hi Maryanne, Do you belong to the North of Ireland Family History Society? If not, I recommend you join, then ask for advice. You can arrange to visit their library while you are there or perhaps they can put you in touch with someone who is researching your family names in the area. This was the most helpful thing to me when I visited. I just received their latest publication* (available on their website nifhs.org) and it is helpful with links and references at PRONI. The more you can do before you go, the better. *"Researching Your Ancestors in the North of Ireland, County Tyrone" On Mon, May 4, 2015 at 3:08 AM, Maryanne Bayliss via < cotyroneireland@rootsweb.com> wrote: > I plan to visit Co Tyrone in a few weeks time from New Zealand.
