I am planning a trip to Ireland in June. I would like to get as close as I can to where my Armstrongs are from. This is what I have ( I have gone through all my info again to be sure) and I need some help locating the spot in County Tyrone. Samuel (father) and William (son) Armstrong immigrate to Canada around 1862-1865. William lists 1865 in 1921 Canadian Census and 1862 in the 1911 Can. Census. William on his marriage cert says he is from County Tryone and he was born in July of 1852. He also says that on the 1911 Can. Census. When I look at the Griffith's Valuation- there is a Samuel and William Armstrong in County Tyrone. I think this might be my Samuel, and the William may be his brother or father. I don't think they would have counted a boy, since William son of Samuel was born in 1852. Am I right? Griffiths Valucation Record Information says that Samuel Armstrong was a tenant of James C. Lowry. County Tyrone Barony Omagh, East Union Omagh Parish Termonmaquirk Townland Bracky Place name Bracky Place Type Townland. Postion on Page 59 Printing date 1860 Act 15&16 Sheet Number 35,36 Map Reference 42 A,B, A Can I assume that the list of places goes from biggest to smallest. So I know that my Armstrong's are from the Townland of Bracky. I kind of assume that is like our townships in Canada. A small area that might have small towns, etc. Where is this place on a map today? Can I get to it when I visit? And finally, any advice about our visit. We are going for 10 days, will visit both Irelands, North and Republic. We are renting a car and staying in bed and breakfasts. My husband and I like scenic drives and not so touristy places. So neither of us will be kissing the Blarney Stone. Any help and advice is appreciated. Finally thawed out in Canada Maggie Marion
