    3. I'm also probably related by marriage and I bet a few more on this list are! If you google Hood and Newtownstewart a lot of hits come up, including an interesting one that has excerpts from the Abercorn records. They are on a Facebook site called My Ulster Ancestors. I need to study it now, because it also mentions other family lines of mine - Kerr, Fulton, Hamilton, McFarland - as well as when the Hood store (a must-see if you visit) was first started! Fun reading for anyone with family in that area. I've never seen this before and happened upon it just because of this thread. Thanks to everyone who contributes...this is the best list! 3. I believe my Hood ancestors also came from this area.  My James Hood was born in 1706 and died in Pelham, MA in 1786.  One of the requirements for being allowed to settle in Pelham was that you had to be Scotch-Irish and Presbyterian. I haven't been able to locate any information on James in Tyrone yet, but still looking. 3. The marriage announcement from the Mount Alexander Mail indicates that Hoods from Newtownstewart were resident in the goldfields town of Castlemaine in 1876 . Australian research should not be overlooked where immigration and civil registration records are the best in the English-speaking world (espicially in the states of Victoria and New South Wales).
