Hi list, I had a request for a lookup for MacLysaght's Irish surnames book for Fleming and thought I'd send it to the list for posterity. Maybe it will help others. From Edward MacLysaght, THE SURNAMES OF IRELAND, 6th ed. (Dublin, Ire. and Portland, OR, USA: Irish Academic Press, 1999): "Fleming (a man from Flanders). Usually gaelicized Pleamonn [accent on the "e"]. Established at Slane in the twelfth century; now numerous in all the four provinces. Bibl. IF. Map Meath." Bibl = see BIBLIOGRAPHY OF IRISH FAMILY HISTORY IF = see IRISH FAMILIES Map Meath = surname map shows "Fleming" in northern Meath, about equidistant from Cavan and Louth Hope that helps!
