    3. Just in case anyone's interested in this family, here's a summary of a one-page story that was published by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in their Jan. 22, 2009 "History Hits" email newsletter -- complete with illustrations. If you want full details / a copy of the article, contact them directly. Here's my summary of their article: The site of HSP (at 13th and Locust Sts. in Philadelphia) was previously the home of Gen. Robert Patterson and a gathering spot for Andrew Jackson, James Polk, U.S. Grant, and former officers from the Union and Confederate armies during the US Civil War. Robert Patterson was born 1792 in Cappagh, Co Tyrone, married Sarah Ann Engle of Germantown (now part of Philadelphia) in 1817, and had 11 children (including Brig. Gen. Francis Engle Patterson, who died in 1862). He died Aug. 7, 1881 and his pallbearers included Generals Grant, Sherman, Porter, and Hancock. (HSP moved to the site in 1883). He had an impressive list of credentials and accomplishments. Anyone interested in the Patterson family from Cappagh, or military history, or Tyrone folks who made a mark in their adopted countries, might be interested in this article. Here's Wikipedia's entry on him -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Patterson . Enjoy! Claire K seekay@comcast.net
