I recently discovered this site, and wonder whether any of the participants might perhaps have information on the following. Ancestors named FINLEY and CARSON lived in Ardstraw parish in the first half of the Nineteenth Century on the Abercorn estates, some of them in Magheracoltan and Drumclamph townlands or nearby, decamped for Philadelphia, Maryland and then Illinois during the period ca. 1830-1856. First to go were my ggggrandparents, James N(elson?) Finley, ship carpenter, and Susannah Carson, in about 1830. Brothers and cousins followed, several in 1855 and 1856, with first names William, Robert, John, Alexander, which unfortunately were recycled constantly in the family, making them difficult to sort out. If anyone has pursued these names in Tyrone, or has any suggestions, I'd be most grateful. They should be able to tell you whether the RA were stationed in Tyrone: http://www.firepower.org.uk/ Ardstraw is 82 miles from Belfast by road.
