    3. Hi Keith I have had a look on Emerald Ancestors in the hope of seeing the name to give a clue to the area ( also looked under soundex to bring up variations) But know Fredrick's there were a couple of Francis's but there was the surname of Lunney also in IRVINESTOWN listed as Fermangh/Tyrone so I would look in both counties I also looked in the new Family research facility and although I didn't find your man there are 3 on there 1/ Fredrick Lunney born 1822 Ireland in Ontario Canada 2/ Fredric M Lunney born 1822 Ireland in Illinois USA 3/ Thomas Fredrick Lunney born 1908 in Mayo/Galway so Southern Ireland Hope this helps Johanna Noonan is a very popular name I found this one in the Family Search facility Joanna Noonan 2 different deaths in Waterford Ireland to late to be her mother but looking for her there might be little easier Patricia New Zealand -----Original Message----- From: cotyroneireland-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cotyroneireland-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Keith Healey Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2009 12:33 PM To: COTYRONEIRELAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [CoTyIre] Convict from County Tyrone Transdported to Australia I am a fifth generation Australian descended from Frederick Lunny (various spellings include Lunney, Looney,Loney, Luny) a native of County Tyrone. He was tried in 1820 in Armagh for stealing from a bleach green and given a life sentence. Frederick was transported to Australia on the convict ship "Lord Sidmouth 11" arriving in Sydney, Australia in 1821. I am trying to find his birthplace in County Tyrone. All the convict documentation in Australia just states "native of Tyrone". The trial documents no longer exist as they were amongst the records that were burnt in the fire. He was Roman Catholic and his birth date would have been around 1796. I have also noticed in my research that the name Frederick does not appear to be very common amongst the RC in Tyrone. Would it have been an anglicised version of a more common Irish name. Would appreciate any help in adding more pieces to my jigsaw puzzle. 3. Hi Patricia, Many thanks for your effort in trying to locate my Frederick. I will go further a field and try Fermargh. I was able to locate Johanna's baptism in Waterford and also her parents name through a professional researcher in Waterford but Frederick is proving to be more difficult. Thanks again, Regards, Margaret -----Original Message----- From: Patricia Moosman [mailto:pat.moosman@clear.net.nz] Sent: Saturday, 7 February 2009 12:13 PM To: 'Keith Healey'; COTYRONEIRELAND@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [CoTyIre] Convict from County Tyrone Transdported to Australia Hi Keith I have had a look on Emerald Ancestors in the hope of seeing the name to give a clue to the area ( also looked under soundex to bring up variations) But know Fredrick's there were a couple of Francis's but there was the surname of Lunney also in IRVINESTOWN listed as Fermangh/Tyrone so I would look in both counties I also looked in the new Family research facility and although I didn't find your man there are 3 on there 1/ Fredrick Lunney born 1822 Ireland in Ontario Canada 2/ Fredric M Lunney born 1822 Ireland in Illinois USA 3/ Thomas Fredrick Lunney born 1908 in Mayo/Galway so Southern Ireland Hope this helps Johanna Noonan is a very popular name I found this one in the Family Search facility Joanna Noonan 2 different deaths in Waterford Ireland to late to be her mother but looking for her there might be little easier Patricia New Zealand -----Original Message----- From: cotyroneireland-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cotyroneireland-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Keith Healey Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2009 12:33 PM To: COTYRONEIRELAND@rootsweb.com Subject: [CoTyIre] Convict from County Tyrone Transdported to Australia I am a fifth generation Australian descended from Frederick Lunny (various spellings include Lunney, Looney,Loney, Luny) a native of County Tyrone. 3. Margaret, I noted on 'Ancestry.com.au' for New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia, Convict Pardons and Tickets of Leave 1834-1859, record of Frederick Lunny, arrived year 1821, Vesel Lc Sidmouth, Piece HO 10/52, it states "place of Conviction - Armagh" Armagh may be a clue as where to search. unfortunately I was unable to print it, just came up as error. Also, where and when were their children born and have you looked for marriage or births in other states.
