Hello Audrey. To get a good handle on where most of the RAFFERTYs were located in County Tyrone in the mid 1800s, try a search at this wonderful Griffiths site: http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php I'd also suggest looking at google maps for Cookstown, to give you some idea of nearby locations. Also look on this list's web-site under Maps for Townland and parish maps etc. to again give you some idea of which of the place-names which you might find in the Griffiths results, might be close to Cookstown. Don't forget to google more generally for them too. And don't forget www.seanruad.com for townland, poor law union, barony, etc. details. HTH and good luck: ray in oz. ----- Original Message ----- From: "audrey render" <audrey.render@ntlworld.com> ... my G. Grandfather says he was born ... > William Rafferty c 1833 general lab.
