    3. Hello Friends It has been awhile since I have posted anything to the list, please forgive me. I had a bereavement in my family. I lost my mother, the daughter of my Gramps, Joseph Mariott Love, whom I research from the Parish of Donagheady Co. Tyrone. I have some news regarding a few surnames that have been very generously up-loaded to our community web-site by Jim McKane. Tammy has been busy with life, which does indeed, get in the way of genealogy at times. We hope to see her back soon.:-) Here are the surnames from the 1901 census Dunn, Agnes - Dunne, Joseph Fullerton - Fulton - Funston Leitch, James - Lendrum, Ellen Loughrey, Maryanne - Love - Lowe, Rosie Mines, Mathew - Mitchel - Mitchell with Annejane Watkins- to Allen Watson to come. You can find the links on the main census index page here http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/census/index.html Allow me to please Thank our transcribers Eddie Kelso, Marilyn Jones, Ian Scott and Rob Doragh!! terrific work and dedicated volunteers! and of course, always, Tammy our web-hostess and Jim McKane- our 2nd in command. If you have submitted data for the web-site please do not be discouraged if you haven't seen it up-loaded as yet. All work will eventually be added, and the donations you give are always appreciated. If anyone has anything they would like to contribut, be it stories, copies of wills, parish transcriptions, pictures etc, please send them along to me at 4theloveoftyrone@gmail.com. Wishing you All, Good Hunting~ Teena

    3. The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland {PRONI} has just announced that it will close all public access to the archives for a period of 9 months from September 2010 to May 2011 to facilitate a move across Belfast to new headquarters presently being built. This means in effect that no genealogical research of any kind can take place in Northern Ireland for almost 1 year. This decision is outrageous. The closure time is totally disappropriate to the work involved. Other Archives in London and Dublin has moved with only minimal disruption to services. We in Northern Ireland are launching a campaign to have this closure stopped or curtailed. With the administrator’s permission can I ask each list member to send a letter of protest to both The Minister of Culture Arts and Leisure, Nelson McCausland and the head of PRONI Aileen McClintock, at the following e mail addresses. Nelson McCausland MLA dcal@dcalni.gov.uk Aileen McClintock proni@dcalni.gov.uk If this closure is to be stopped we need not only local, but Worldwide support. Many thanks Robert Williams _________________________________________________________________ Get the best of MSN on your mobile http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/147991039/direct/01/

    3. The announcement was made a while ago. There are those who support the move, there are those that don't. Stopping the closure is a non starter as contracts have been drawn up. Curtailing the closure means delaying the inevitable. The new premises will be much easier to get to for those who do not live in Belfast, be more user friendly, have greater access to records. Objecting to the closure time being totally disproportionate to the work involved would be far more advantageous to all concerned. One has also to consider the end product of this move. "This means in effect that no physical genealogical research of any kind can take place in Northern Ireland for 9 months!" but in meantime they are trying to counteract this by making more on line records available for the 9 months closure. For Joe Public it may be an inconvenience but it is during the off peak season. For those making money out of research it is a different matter! When one takes out Xmas/New Year holidays etc it is only a little over 6 months! PRONI should be congratulated and supported for moving forward. A campaign to shorten the closure time is a different matter.
