    3. Listers should be warned that many 19th century BMD records are non- existent, having been destroyed in a 1922 fire at the records office during "the troubles" Make sure you know the name of the townland not just the county before you contact any of the research companies. Otherwise you will start on an expensive needle in a haystack search. My ancestors were married mid to late 1830s in Clogher and started a family, however after spending a lot of money I found out that records for that time period do not exist. A friend of mine from Ottawa researching his ancestors went to N. Ireland with Ontario land deeds and other documents dating back to 1835. The Irish researcher jokingly suggested that Canadian records were more complete than what he had to work with. And old Irish church records if located can be daunting since some priests (depending on their education) made BMD entries combining Latin, English and Gaelic. Good luck JIM On 2-Nov-09, at 3:01 AM, cotyroneireland-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > > You are receiving this email because you subscribed to the > CoTyroneIreland-D mailing list.
