    1. [CoTyIre] Irish BMD Indexes Now Online

    3. The LDS pilot site now has the Irish civil registration indexes transcribed (B 1864-1958, M 1845-1958, D 1864-1958). Through 1921, the write up says, it's one all-Ireland index; from 1922, the indexes are split for Republic of Ireland and NI, just as the published national indexes are. For info and to search, see: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347 (if that direct link doesn't work for you, go to http:// pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch, click on Europe on the map, then scroll down to Ireland and click on the database title -- it's the only one listed under Ireland) Note that I just tried to search it using Firefox on my Mac, and my keystrokes are not acknowledged. Maybe it's IE- or Windows- centric? (I've had this problem before, and it's always been fixed fairly quickly, so I'll just wait patiently for access...) Anyway, this means I cannot vouch for how well the database works, just that the data is listed as being online. Maybe someone who can access it can report back on the availability of any post-1958 stuff, how well the search engine works, etc.? Note also that the title of the database says the records are through 1958, but the description says "to present" for both Republic and NI. I suspect that either this is generic info about the printed indexes (NOT about the transcription), or is written in expectation that the transcribed indexes will be later expanded. I will be mightily surprised if there really are post-1958 index entries in it -- the description mentions that the LDS microfilm of the indexes ends in 1958, so I suspect that is what was transcribed. Maybe someone call test it out and report back to us? Remember, these are just the INDEXES, and only transcriptions of them. You will still have to order copies of the entries as always. Still, the potential time savings for making up a research wish list are enticing... ;-) Enjoy! Claire K CTI List Admin
