    1. [CoTyIre] Welsh or Walsh or Welch / McGinnis / Robb
    2. Ronnie & Rob Welch
    3. Seeking fellow researchers to share information on two, possibly three, Welsh / Walsh / Welch brothers and their families. This is an annual update of personal research intent. 1. Stewart (Stuart) WELSH.  Unknown birth date in Ireland (ca early 1800s), married about 1834 at unknown location in Ireland, to Eliza(beth) CHAPMAN, born about 1816 at unknown location in Ireland, daughter of farmer John CHAPMAN.  Stewart & Eliza had one known reported child, Robert WELCH, born 2 Feb 1835 at unknown location in Ireland (family tradition has it in Northern Ireland, but brother Robert [below] is reported born in Co. Monaghan).  Stewart may be the Stewart WELSH in the 1833 & 1834 Tithe Applotment of Ardstraw Parish, Co. Tyrone (see brother, Robert's notes), but other researchers think not and that this Stewart belonged to another Welsh family in Ardstraw Parish.  My Stewart joined the British Army in Cavan, Co. Cavan (adjacent to Clones Parish, Co. Monaghan) during Sep 1840, and died while in military service in India during Nov 1845.  His name was spelled Stewart/Stuart and Welsh/Walsh in the army records.  His widow, Eliza (CHAPMAN) WALSH, remarried farmer James JACKSON on 4 Sep 1849 in Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh (also adjacent to Clones Parish, Co. Monaghan).  Son and mother immigrated to the USA separately, son Robert in 1849, and his mother sometime before 1852. 2. Isaac or Israel WELCH.  Family tradition has a possible brother Isaac WELCH, reported to be the middle brother.  Isaac born about 1808 in Ireland.  He was listed as Azier WELCH in the 1850 Livingston Co, New York census, living with his brother Robert below, and his nephew, Robert above. 3. Robert WELCH.  Reported to be born 10 Nov 1810 unknown location in Co. Monaghan.  Married at unknown location in Ireland to Nancy McGINNIS, born 8 Feb 1803 in Birrif (spelling unsure, possibly might be Beragh) or Omagh, Co. Tyrone.  Both these two locations are just down the road from Ardstraw (see above), Co. Tyrone.  This couple immigrated to the USA, probably in the first half of 1840, or perhaps 1839.  Three daughters, all reported born in Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY.  After the 1864 death of Nancy, Robert remarried his brother Stewart's widow, who was again a widower after re-marrying another person named Alfred Morrell.  Yes, 4 marriages for her.  I do not know what happened to the 2nd marriage to Mr. Jackson, but Eliza(beth) was in NY by 1852, and associated with the Morrell family then by the 1855 NY State Census. 4. Nancy McGINNIS. Born 8 Feb 1803 in Birrif (spelling unsure, possibly might be Beragh, Co. Tyrone), Ulster. Also reported to have been born in Omagh (unknown if parish or town), Co. Tyrone. Nancy was the daughter of Mr. (unknown 1st) McGinnis and Jane Robb. Died 14 Apr 1864 in Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY, USA. Religion. Unknown if Catholic or Protestant. By 1861 (about 20 years after immigration to the USA), the Welch/McGinnis family were members of an Episcopal Church in Mt. Morris, Livingston Co., NY, USA. Robert Welch, the nephew, married a Scottish girl & their 2nd child was christened 1869 in a Presbyterian Church in Tuscarora, Livingston Co., NY. Rob Robert E. Welch Arizona, USA celticop@cox.net
