A new Ebook is now available at www.ulsterheritage.com/ebooks.htm It should be of interest to anyone researching the Scots-Irish, Co. Londonderry and Ulster. /SCOTS-IRISH ORIGINS, 1600-1800 A.D.// GENEALOGICAL GLEANINGS OF THE SCOTS-IRISH IN COUNTY LONDONDERRY, IRELAND. PART TWO -- *THE PLANTATION OF LONDONDERRY, c.1600-1670* INCLUDING APPENDICES: 1. *PHILLIPS' SURVEY* OF 1622 AND THE *1630 MUSTER ROLL* OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF LONDONDERRY. 2. THE* SUMMONISTER ROLLS*/COURT RECORDS OF COUNTY LONDONDERRY, 1615-70. By Bob Forrest, B.A. Hons; Economic and Social History (Queen's University, Belfast). 84 pages + 3 maps + 1 illust./ /Part two in the series Scots-Irish origins, this volume focuses on the seventeenth century plantation of county Londonderry and makes available for the first time two important genealogical sources, the 1630 Muster Roll and the Summonister (Court) Rolls c.1615-1670 for county Londonderry. Mr. Forrest has utilised the Summonister Court Rolls, the 1622 survey by Phillips and Hadsor, the 1630 muster roll and the 1641 depositions to write a short history of the 'Plantation of Londonderry c.1600-1670.' He traces the development of the Londoners' twelve plantations, as well as the growth of urbanization within the county focussing primarily on Londonderry, Coleraine and Limavady./ /In this book are the names of many Lowland Scots who migrated to Londonderry during the seventeenth century. These early settlers can be considered to be the founding fathers of the Scots-Irish in the region. There are 1,727 variant surnames contained in this volume that *locate name to place*./// -- EFFECTIVE June 1, 2008 James A. Hello Friends Well, I am still searching and hoping that someone out there can proof read some data, that is going to be uploaded to our community web-site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/ I feel it would be so much easier for Tammy, if we could catch spelling errors before she endeavors the difficult work of adding data & information to the site. Between the volunteer proof-reader and myself, we should be able to catch those errors. This is not a continual position, just simply when we get data in, (and not all data needs to be checked) If someone could help out that would be *Fantastic* and I sure would be grateful. Thanks in advance~ Teena
Teena, If no one else volunteers, I can help. Hello Tyrone listers Although I am not researching in Tyrone I was helping some friends to get started on their search. We went to Omagh Branch library and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had an Alpha list of the 1901 Tyrone Census. They have the films at the library. So, If you are coming to Ireland to do research, You aren't researching too far back and the 1901 Census would help you, You only know that your relatives were from Tyrone but you don't know the Parish, this would be really good for you. This would be a lot easier than going to PRONI and searching every Parish. The Alpha list will show only the parishes that contain the name you are researching. The staff will print a list of the name you request and it will show the necessary films you need to look at and they will get you the films. They also have old local newspaper records and directories from about 1870. Google Omagh Branch Library and you will get the address and directions. I'm not suggesting you miss PRONI as the Omagh library don't have Church records but for the 1901 Census for Tyrone this is much, much easier and I should imagine if you are visiting here you will go to look at Tyrone as part of your journey. As far as I know no other County has done this but would be happy to find out that I was wrong! Lena

Hello Friends Forgive me if I've already broached a subject for our community web-site, (let's just call it a reminder, instead of my senility <VBG>) For anyone new to our mailing list, this list has been working and collaberating together for quite some time, to bring together our *community* web-site. Our hostess for the site is Tammy, and we've recently been able to *welcome* Virginia to come on board (on a temporary basis) to help up-load and arrange pictures us. Please, if you have photos forward them on in a jpg format. We've photos of all sorts- Churchs- businesses- landscapes- people etc. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/ These are the new topics I have been working on, which I would greatly appreciate help, suggestions, and as always, your submissions, to add to them. Census Strays Biographies of Co. Tyrone people, which includes Ministers/Priests/Pastors, (Thanks Anne for that suggestion) Criminals/Rogues/Villians which also includes information the Omagh Gaol.and a 'cold case files' topic (Thanks for that one Tammy) Landowners/Land Descriptions and Land Rentals:- Many folks have a great deal of knowledge of the areas they are researching. Why not add a few paragraphs to help new-comers. Do you have any information on Estates? We sure could use that sort of data Obiituaries of Co. Tyrone folks (which is a different take on our gravestone project)- many folks only have the obits, and no cemetery photos or data to post to that area of our site.) Occupations- I've recently gathered inforamtion on labourers and Cottiers. Can anyone write up something on the linen industry? Or about the famous Tyrone crystal? I'm also working on Surgeons/physcians/apocarthy's and would love it if someone could submit a timeline of famines & diseases. Please feel free to add your submissions & Suggestions to me at 4theloveoftyrone@gmail.com or 4tyrone@telus.net Thanks so much and *Happy Hunting* Teena
Would love some help on this 'family story'. My husband's great grandfather, JOHN HENERY, came to Australia in 1845 with the 11th Regiment. The story goes that his sister was the Countess of Mountjoy, and that she and her husband immigrated to Canada. I have no idea of her christian name. All we know of John Henery's family is that his father's name was David and that his occupation was "Land Steward" and that John was born at DRUMQUIN. Appreciate any advice. Lynette

In making the presentation, Mrs. H. Devin expressed the good wishes of all the members of the Derryloran Branch of the G.F.S., and voiced their sentiments of gratitude to Miss Mann for her sustained devotion to the cause of the Society, over a very long period of years. The preset was in the form of valuable Old Bleach hand painted linen. All congratulated Miss Mann as the recipient of this token of high esteem from the members of the G.F.S., who attended her class through the past season.
Hello, I am a recent subscriber to this list, and have been told by a fellow researcher that John McCollister Hutton came from County Tyrone. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how I might find out whether this is true. John reportedly immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1784. He married twice, having 9 children by his first wife and 6 by the second wife. He died near Franklin, Tennessee in 1832. I would appreciate any clues on where to look; I am new to Irish research. I had a book, on loan from the British Library for some research. Titled, "An original History of the City of Gloucester," by Thomas Dudley Fosbrooke, While looking through the Epitaphs I came across the following and thought it may be of interest to someone on the list. Page 184 Verbatim: <<<<St. Nicholas Church, Middle Aile Entry 49 Arms: on a fess three buckles, in base a thistle. John Leslie, Esq., of Tircarnach, of the parish of Donnahady, in the baron [y] of Strabane and county of Tirone, in the Kingdom of Ireland, died August 10, 1717 aged 44>>>>> Hope this may help someone. Hello Gwen. Thanks for posting this. Would you mind telling me, please, if most of this was obtained from The Caledon Papers in PRONI, or from other sources? I ask, because I think that the Caledon Papers are the only possible sources for my history researches on the Reverend James CAMPBELL, who was the Perpetual Curate in the Parish of Caledon from 30th December 1806 to 1817 , which I believe was in the gift of Lord Caledon; and I believe that it was through this relationship, that the Reverend Campbell's brother: John Thomas Campbell later received patronage from Lord Caledon in South Africa, when he was governor there; so that John Thomas Campbell was recommended there to the newly-appointed governor to New South Wales in 1809: Lachlan Macquarie; on a stop-over en-route to take up his Governorship in Sydney. Alternately, or additionally, the patronage connection might have been through their brother, the Reverend Charles CAMPBELL; or through their father: the Reverend William CAMPBELL (later vicar of Newry); or even through HIS father: the Reverend Moses CAMPBELL. Accordingly, if you have used other sources for your CD, I'd be interested to learn of those sources, please. Thanks in advance: Ray in oz. ----- Original Message ----- From: "gwenb@eastlilnk.ca" <gwenb@eastlink.ca> To: <cotyroneireland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 16, 2008 12:47 AM Subject: [CoTyIre] The Caledon Estate, Counties Tyrone and Armagh > Readers might be interested to hear of a CD ROM that I have recently > published concerning some early Scottish and English families of the > Caledon Estate ...> Gwen Barry, > Nova Scotia

Readers might be interested to hear of a CD ROM that I have recently published concerning some early Scottish and English families of the Caledon Estate in the parishes of Aghaloo, Co. Tyrone and Tynan, County Armagh. The publication is titled "Hendersons & Related Families of the Caledon Estate, Counties Tyrone and Armagh, and of Megantic County, Quebec." The publication concentrates on the Caledon Estate families of HENDERSON, DAVIDSON/DAVISON, WRIGHT, REID, EDWARDS, OLIVER, and WILSON, with mentions of the families of Irwin, Crozier, Norris, Moore and others, including 80 odd land leases and many parish records for the primary families of the study as mentioned above. Of wider interest, it includes a brief history of the Caledon Estate going back to the original O'Neill owners prior to 1600, and the owners from the inception of the Ulster Plantation, all of whom had English and Scottish tenants, as well as maps and photos of the Caledon Estate area.
