The children were Jane (from Lisleen) married to John HAMILTON (from Ardbarron), Ann, Martha Matilda, Margaret (possibly also from Lisleen),Charles (from Castleberg), Mary Anne,William John, Elizabeth and Esther. It would seem strange that all his siblings if he is in the same family would head to Canada and he to Australia, unless he followed 3 of his children there. regards Kerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fran Rose" <ferose@shaw.ca> To: "Kerry Hall" <kezz64@optusnet.com.au> Sent: Wednesday, July 30, 2008 10:45 AM Subject: Re: [CoTyIre] Your Posting re William Scott > Hi, Kerry. > > Was it R Craig Scott's 2003 posting that you saw? Those of you on shaw.ca might want to make sure that there isn't a problem with your ISP. I hope some of you are still on the list, or are reading this in the archives. Hi Kerry That info looks interesting but a possible "SCOTT /ARMSTRONG" connection that I am looking for would've most likely happened years before that one. BUT I will note that info you gave. As of right now I don't see a connection to my ARMSTRONG. In my previous post Montgomery ARMSTRONG b 1812 (who married Sarah BUCHANAN) was born in Drummee on Inishmore, Co Fermanagh , along with his 17 (?) siblings, of which I have a definite 10 of them. Montgomery married Sarah and lived in Drumme till about 1856 when they moved (I believe) to Sarah's home town- Bonnynubber. They did have a son William (b.?), but his birth was some time after 1845 when Montgomery and Sarah married. Montgomery also had a brother William ARMSTRONG. All I know about him is that he died Nov 10, 1849. ARMSTRONG was a very common name unfortunately ...and though I have tons of records on them...most are not mine (lol). TY...though I will keep the info....You never know in searching what clues will suddenly show up! Sue in NY In a message dated 7/30/2008 6:28:21 A.M. I am looking for information on a linen mill that was owned by my husband's g-g-g-grandfather, Edward Boyle, in Strabane-County Tyrone in the early to mid 1800's. The mill made damask linen. After Edward, a widower, died the family sold the mill and immigrated to the USA. His children, Edward, Bridget, Charles, Isabelle and Patrick arrived in New York City in 1846. I would like to know where the mill was originally located and who it might have been sold to. Can you help me? Thanks! Theresa
I am looking for info on Patrick Boyle, born 1830 in Strabane-County Tyrone-Northern Ireland. He died on 11-DEC-1879 in Jo Daviess County-IL-USA. His family is to have owned a linen mill in Strabane. After his father, Edward's death, he and his siblings [Edward, Bridget, Charles & Isabelle] sold the linen mill and immigrated to the USA in 1846. Their mother, name unknown, had already passed away. They settled in New York City and lived there until 1851 when the siblings, all but Bridget, moved to Galena-Jo Daviess-IL and purchased land near Woodbine-IL. He met his future wife, Alice Boyle when her family moved to Galena in 1852. Alice's parents were Owen & Mary Boyle from County Louth-Ireland and she was born in 1837. Her family had originally moved from Ireland to Philadelphia-PA in 1847. Patrick worked on the railroad. They had 10 children: Elizabeth, Owen, Cornelius, Mary, Isabella, Alice, Patrick, Delia, John & Charles. After Patrick's death in 1879, Alice and the family lived in IL for awhile, but moved to Le Mars-Plymouth-IA in 1907. Alice died there in 1927. Patrick and Alice are buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Apple River Township in Jo Daviess County-IL-USA. Thanks for your help! Theresa
I see some researchers of the Scott family have recently posted their connections. Mygggrandfather was John Scott who died in the 1860's before his widow and adult children emigrated to Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada. His wife was Mary Monteith, daughter of Robert Monteith and Ruth Campbell. One of their sons was William, 1842-1923. In Ontario he married Margaret bell, daughter of Alexander and Ann (or Nancy), also from Ireland. Some of Mary Montieth's family had emigrated to Ontario in the 1840's from Tircur in the parish of Cappagh, and supposedly the Scotts did not live far away, although I hven't been able to pinpoint exactly where. Does anyone have any connections to these families? Diane B.
HI- I have been posting and watching for a couple of years for some info on the Tyrone/Scott connections. While I don't see it yet perhaps Charles had siblings? My Ancestor James Scott b. 31 Oct 1802, d. 10 Jan 1873, listed on Tombstone as a native of co Tyrone. He had a brother Robert born 1805. I think there was also a sister. They were early settlers in Eastern Iowa via Eastern Ohio/Western PA and James was a Miller. The other thing that caught my eye was that My GG Grandfathers middle name was Graham so I was guessing that was James' mother's maiden name. You can see what info I have here: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/a/u/Daniel-W-Hausman/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0953.html Hope we can make some connections! I don't know when the other siblings emigrated. I have connected with several other descendants of Charles and Jane and now have a sizable family tree of their children and descendants now scattered in the United States as well as Canada. I would be happy to share what I have discovered with other descendants. But despite following all the leads found in postings to the list over the last 2 years, checking all the links on the helpful Tyrone website and trying some of the paid gravestone and other services in Northern Ireland I have found no more information on Charles and his wife Jane BATTY (BEATTY). I would love to visit County Tyrone, but not without some solid information about where they might have lived. I found reference on the Irish Parish History Books web site to a person who was willing to do Ardstraw lookups in Historical Survey of a Parish 1600-1900, but a message to this person received no answer. Perhaps someone on the list has a copy of this book and would be willing to look up Sarah and perhaps other siblings? Have also found more than one Charles SCOTT in the Griffith's Valuation and the List of Spinning Wheels in Tyrone but am unsure of how to follow up on those leads. Most of my information came from a large handwritten family history by a descendant of Nathaniel. I have since connected via the internet with other descendants. My family is planning a trip to trace our Irish roots in Tyrone county in September. I am hoping I might find some links before we arrive. My husband's GG grandfather was James Gilmore (spelling may have changed) born in Omagh, county Tyrone in abt 1803. He married Matilda Smith, born in Omagh (some accounts say Queen's county) in 1807. James died in 1845 and Matilda and the nine children emigrated to America between 1846 and 1848. James died in Omagh in 1845. We know the family had the children baptized Presbyterian. The nine children were: James, born 1826-1832, Ann, born 1830, John, born 12/24/1831, Eliza, born 1834, William, born 3/14/1836, Katharine, corn 4/17/1838, Isabelle, born 1840, Frances, born 9/20/1845, and Thomas, born abt 1847. All children were born in Omagh as far as the records we have. Do you have any information on the family, or does anyone else have anything. Any facts or burial place, etc. would make our trip so much more meaningful.
Just a note of clarification -- the site Richard is referring to is not our group's website (run by Teena), rather it's the Northern IrelandGenWeb one. -Clare L. -----Original Message----- Subject: [CoTyIre] County Tyrone, NI Coordinator <<< Once again I have resumed duties as the County Tyrone, Northern Ireland site. Once again I have resumed duties as the County Tyrone, Northern Ireland site. I have received a few emails with requests that I hope to get to today, therefore, if you sent an email to me at this address I will respond. Feel free to send me any suggestions or requests that you might have. I look forward to being of service to you on this list and others who have a historical and genealogical connection to County Tyrone. Someday, I hope to once and for all find the roots of my Irish Ancestors. The surnames I am researching, which I have not found the particular Irish location for are, CASEY, ROSS, and NEAL. My ROSS family appears to have been members of the Presbyterian Church, my CASEY's I am not sure. The NEAL's were Baptist for the most part in America. I have a DICKEY line on my Grandmother's side which is undoubtedly Irish...he had red hair and played the fiddle. One of my ROSS' played the bagpipes, had a kilt, and spoke with an "Scottish" dialect well into the 20th Century. How they were able to distinguish between the Irish and Scottish dialect I am not sure. It must have been passed down through the family that we originated from Scotland. I have no doubt that my Hugh Ross, who served in the American Revolution, might have been expelled from Scotland to Northern Ireland before coming to this country. That is a little about me and I look forward to reading the emails as they come in. Good luck in your research and if you think I can help, please feel free to ask.
