    3. Hi, I realize that this is the Fermanagh related site. But since you are on the topic here, I thought I would add something about the Boer War and Canadians who fought in it (some who came from Ireland and Scotland) The records of all Canadians who fought in the Boer War are searchable online at the Archives of Canada Website. I just used it yesterday and it is wonderful. I looked up the last A Stuart and A Stewart and found two men, one with a 44 page file the other with a 39 page file, and it was all readable online, the best thing about it was at the end, when I got to read the discharge papers, it listed the address they went to after being discharged. One man went to Seattle (originally born in Scotland, and had lived in Ontario prior to the War). Here is the link: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/nwmp-pcno/index-e.html?PHPSESSID=kt9ap1je8rvavkre32baavuoq0 Just Amazing! - search link is on that page to the left! 2. Teena
    3. Hello Friends 'Tis been awhile since I've posted anything relating to our commuity web-site, as the announcements , etc. are now within Tammy's capable hands. My job is to recruit volunteers, and to try to find, transcribe & organize data for the site. I often beg & plead for these <VBG> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/ If any of you can help with some of the projects that I am working on, that would be *Fantastic*. Your help could be in the way of Pictures (of workhouses/ hospitals etc), essays on ancestors who were within the occupations (even simple paragraphs), or transcriptions. The projects that I now have in the works are~ 1) Lunatic Asylums / Hospitals & Workhouses ( I have within this also been trying to find census data on Tyrone folks held in foreign country institutions. A wonderful contribtionin this category would be the 1901 census of Tyrone people in Tyrone hospitals.) 2) Physicians/Surgeons & Apocarthy's.- (Biographies, where they were educated, where they lived, what were some of their remedies and for what malady. those old wives tails <VBG>) 3) Priests / Ministers / Pastors. (Lists of any of the Churches Ministers (etc) from earlier times.and Biographries whether they remained in Tyrone or emigrated elswhere.) 4) Military (muster Rolls, Units of Tyrone in the 17-1800's- biographies) Thanks you in advance for any help with these projects. And a special Thanks to all who have contributed to make our community web-site a success. :-) Cheers Teena

    3. Hi Listers, For about 8 years I have been searching for a place called Crossroads, which was supposed to be near Cookstown, and where BURTONS had lived according to Canadian descendants. There were lots of places with Crossroads in their title. None fitted. I read with glee on the list that Griffiths evaluation has been linked to maps, and in two minutes found Burtons in Curran, and on the map, though not in the evaluation, were the printed words CROSSROADS!! I now have a few more BURTONS to look for as a bonus. You can only imagine my pleasure. Thanks again, Val.

    1. [CoTyIre] Looking for Riddle / Riddel name in Straubane, Ire
    2. Ruth Hundley
    3. Hello, I am looking for information prior to 1800 when one William and Margaret (Ukn.) Riddle / Riddel would have been in IRE. We know they were from Straubane, but as to when married, born, etc. we have no information. The children were, for the most part born in USA, Pennsylvania. I only know the births of 2 of the 5 children being 1769 & 1771. The other 3 could have been born earlier or in IRE, I do not know. I have copied the names and addresses of churches in Straubane from the web site but there is another listing for churches that shows only dates of 1800 + for information... does this mean that none of the churches have records earlier than this? I also do not know what denomination they were of, so I am willing to write to all addresses if need be. Does anyone have any suggestions as this family obviously came to the US before 1769? I did recieve a reply from Teena as to checking the ship passenger lists to Pa for early 1700s so will do that as well. Thank you for any help here, Ruth in IL

He appears on the 1881 census for Ancaster, Ontario, Canada as a Presbyterian cabinetmaker living with the James McElroy family, which I believe was his uncle. His mother Margaret (nee McIlroy/McElroy) followed him to Canada at a later date, perhaps as a widow? Not sure of any siblings born in Ireland or what his father's occupation was. 1. [CoTyIre] August 5/08 Updates to the Co. Tyrone Website
    2. Tammy Mitchell
    3. This month of August, I will have a lot of time to update the site. If anyone has transcribed something, and has not considered to send it for the site, please send it to me at this address. If you have already sent some transcriptions to me or Teena, please don't send them again. I have a huge backlog, that I hope to get to this month. All the new pages that I add will be crawled by our search site robot each Sunday, so they will not be search-able until then. So if you will, please visit these pages, if of interest to you, and search each page for your people of interest. Links...recent updates to the Co. 1. [CoTyIre] McCosker and some tools...

    3. I have had the pleasure of using the National Library - Enaclann - OMS collaboration "Ask About Ireland" website and its Griffiths Valuation and the place name search tool. As Claire said, there is a problem however, and I was hoping someone out there in the netherland could help us solve it. I will use the example of my gggrandfather, Patrick McCosker (c. 1813 - 1868). It took a lot of searching to locate him mainly because of the spellings that were used. All records, and that includes my great grandmother's name, indicated that we were looking for a McCusker (and a variant that included McKuscar, but not McCosker). It further developed that we were looking for the townland of Augaronan, with a variant of Augharonan. I would probably be in the parish of Donacavey because we had an oral record of Catherine McCusker's marriage to Owen McCarroll in the Roman Catholic church in Donacavey. (The two parishes seem to break apart going to Donacavey (Fintona) and Clogher at this point), We finally located Catherine's father Patrick, but it was as a McCosker. (Just a little difference between an "O" and a "U".) And it became clear that he was a farmer living in Agharonan (another spelling "error," but made it hard to locate him). Because we had been successful in locating the McCarroll homesite in Corkhill (and we do have pictures just as it was being torn down in 1982), we wanted to see where Catherine's beginning were, now that we had finally survived the challenge of her name (she went by McCusker all of those years). The problem was that the map citation was incorrect because the western portion of the townland of Agharonan was not on sheet number 51. So I attempted to bring up various townlands, such as Garvallagh and Derrybard, in order to locate the missing western portion of the townland we were interested in, those properties or holdings, numbered 34 and 35 in the townland. But, to no avail and we still do not know just where to go from here. Regards, Jim Carroll
