Hi all, I am looking for the family of William Stewart Robinson. William John Robinson was supposedly born in Gortalowry on June 19, 1876. His parents were William Stewart Robinson and Mary Jane (Burton) Robinson. I was wondering if anyone has info on the birth or even can find them in a census. There is also a Hugh Robinson in the same family who joined the forces in 1914 in Australia and died in Turkey the following year. His parents are William and Mary Jane Robinson. Unfortunately, both William Robinsons married a Mary Jane so it further complicates things. I am in Vancouver, BC Canada. Thanks, Mary

Hello again Alan. I have now looked at the full scan which you have posted, and given that all of the entries above the CASEY ones give at the Native Place, the COUNTY name -- it would seem that Len is correct in thinking that it migth be Tyrone. Looking at the spelling there, it is also possible that it might be Tiroen -- as an alternative spelling for the same county. If those other lists and indexes which I mentioned earlier are available for that ship, then I think that you would obtain much more precise locational details within Tyrone from them. Good Luck with it. ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alan Pine" <alan@dcsa.com.au> > Len looks like he may have solved this when he suggested if the first > "n" was an "r" and the "ee" was "oo" then we'd have Tiroon which would > be the phonetic spelling of how an Ulsterman would have pronounced > Tyrone. Wow this is a very helpful list. And quick too. I believe I've answered everyone who emailed directly but if I missed anyone then please accept my apologies. Len looks like he may have solved this when he suggested if the first "n" was an "r" and the "ee" was "oo" then we'd have Tiroon which would be the phonetic spelling of how an Ulsterman would have pronounced Tyrone. Closer examination of the complete scanned image suggests this would be correct. Good work considering the poor image he had to work with. I've put the complete scan at http://www.barcodereader.com.au/tineen/ if anyone wants to take a look. The Casey girls at the bottom of the page. Ann Casey married an Armstrong which is the main family name I'm researching. Regards and thanks, Alan. Alan Pine wrote: > Hello, > > Does anyone know if there is a place in Co. Hello Alan. I went into the seanruad site: http://seanruad.com/ Having no luck searching in there for Tineen; I merely inserted the COUNTY as Tyrone, and the Province as Ulster, and hit enter. That way ALL of the townlands in their database for County Tyrone appear. Roughly 2,500 of them!! Then I scrolled through them looking for any spellings where the lower case letters in running writing MIGHT look something like ...ineen The list copied below is the result of that. BUT I did it quickly, so I might have missed LOTS. I tried to look at your image, but I don't know if it is your scanning of my lack of technical ability, but I was unable to read it as small as it appeared, and I could not find any way to magnify it further. Therefore I am unable to attempt an independent look at it. OTHER THOUGHTS: I don't know anything about immigration to Port Phillip (Melbourne), but IF the Immigration Deposit Journals also cover Port Phillip (and I am unsure offhand now what periods they run for), then the microfiche INDEXES to the Immigration Deposit Journals, as well as the relevant entry in the Deposit Journals themselves, MIGHT give you a different handwriting, and therefore a different interpretation to put on it. ALSO: Again I am unsure of the dates covered, but for MOST of the immigrant ships into Sydney in the mid-1800s, there were TWO completely separate and distinct "LISTS". One was an immigration list, and the other was a passenger list. So, IF your ship does have those two separate lists for its arrival, you may well find the specificity which you require in the other list. Hoping that none of this is too vague. Good luck with it. My GGrandparents were Roseanne Slaven and George Magovern. I have looke for both names and am having problems finding them. The spelling of Magovern is different but is likely a derivite or MacGovern. They left Ireland in the early 1900 for Scotland. My Grandmother Bridget was born in Scotland an later emigrated to Canada. Any help would be great. The were from Tyrone and Fermanah. Pat Evans

I have been searching for over 5 years to try and find something out on my mother's family, and it was sad the death of my Aunt, knocked down the brick wall for me. I am sorry to use the list for this purpose, but my email for Diane Hoyt, who I met on this list, no longer works, and I don't know how to reach her! Diane, I am so sorry I haven't gotten back to you in so long. In addition to school, I have had a chronic illness that they just figured out is fibromyalgia. It has zapped the strength out of me, so I haven't been able to do more than what is absolutely necessary. I swear I will finish reading everything you have sent, send you what I have, and continue our conversation about our family. It may just not be until next summer. I am just trying to get finished with school and get my body to cooperate with me. I do think about you often and appreciate all you have done for me. Joy Sterrantino Rowley

Annie, the .fdb extension is a Legacy FamilyTree one, which stands for something like "familydatabase". I am a computer IL-literate, but in the past I have had similar problems to Teena, and I cannot recall how I rectified them. Basically, Legacy, like most family tree programs, uses a GEDCOM format, so that it can import and export genealogy files. YET, it seems that maybe WITHIN Legacy, its family tree files are .fdb It seems that when Teena lost her hard-drive, that she had a back-up file of her Legacy database, but it uses this file extension name of .fdb I had thought that Tammy's idea of just downloading a new free copy of the Legacy program (which anyone can do at any time free of charge), would do the trick -- BUT to my ignorant mind, I don't know HOW Teena could then TELL her Legacy program to FIND her .fdb data. Maybe with this sort of background, your skills might be able to help Teena. Hope so, as I am unable to. Thanks for trying to help her; she is so wonderful to this list, and has been for so very long, that it would be great to be able to find an easy solution for her. FILENAME EXTENSION PROBLEM I checked Wikipedia's list of filename extensions to see what the affected file might be. And according to them there is no .FDB filename extension. So it is either something totally unique to this program (in which case you need tech support for the program supplier) OR you acquired a filename-extension-changing virus. So if you re-install a clean version of the program and it still crashes then you need some serious virus protection and cleaning software, such as McAfee Hope this helps your comeback. Hi Clare & Claire & my Friends out there Please do not mind if I'm off topic a bit here. This involves the Legacy Family Tree Free version that I actually started with in 1996. I'll be as brief as possible. I've been struggling on my own for about 2 months now and have decided that my illiteracyI requires some help. Who better to ask than some of my friends on the list ? The problem involves the Legacy Family History Free version download, and a computer crash. Now I'm trying to use a back up copy that I made and all I have it seems are file extenisions fdb. There is no program on the Disk. I'm grateful for any ideas, as I am devastated by this loss. (my advice- make 2 back-ups just in case.) Thanks so very much~ Teena
