The best and easiest way that I know of is this: 1. go to www.seanruad.com 2. scroll down the home page to their SECOND search-box, which is headed up "show me a list of parishes in the selected county"... 3. select Tyrone for the county 4. press SUBMIT 5. Voila! you should have your results. I would add one further comment, which is that these resulting Parish names are showing only one 'standardised' spelling; whereas we know from our other Irish research that alternative spellings in Ireland abound, not only for surnames, but also for most placenames. Can someone point me to a web site that lists all the parish names in County Tyrone? I know of only one: Clonoe but would like to see the spelling of all the others.
I am new to the list and would like to hear from anyone who may have information on my Vance line. Details I know are John Vance born 1742 died 1799. Married ??Jane Brown about 1770. Two children Margaret born c1775 and George Washington born c1782 I am descended from Margaret who married George Balbirnie in1797 in Coagh They had 2 children born in Ireland-Robert Anstruther in Larne in 1798 and Jane in Ballymena c 1800. This Vance line died out as Margarets brother George didn't marry. Robert Anstruther added the name Vans/Vance to his name in 1854 in honour to his mother's family. Would like to know John Vances pedigree or any general information if anyone can help Regards Trish

Hello, I am researching the family name Wilson. The person I am interested in is male, a teacher in the village of Sandholes, about the early to mid 1800's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt. Thank you for any suggestions. M. Hilderley
Hello List Members As many of you are aware, we here at CoTyroneIreland began with an idea, which has culminated in our community web-site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/index.html There are a great many people who have contributed their time, energy and dedication to our project, and without them (you) we simply could not provide the fantastic array of data that we do. Unfortunately, we are in dire help of another volunteer. We are desperately needing someone, who has fluent knowledge of FTP and html, to upload pictures to the site. Tammy simply cannot handle it all, and nor should she. She is also short on time so cannot train anyone to handle this aspect. Please, if you can help out, and have the knowledge, contact me at 4theloveoftyrone@gmail.com We do have a bit of a back-log of pictures needing to be up-loaded, with more coming in. I'm sure a great many folks would love to view these beautiful pics. I look forward to hearing from someone. TIA~ Teena

Hello Cliff. I think it's helpful to think of it as being the difference between one's citizenship and one's ancestral origins. Genealogists generally are looking for the latter. I am an American citizen, as were several generations of my ancestors, but my ancestral roots are German, Scottish, Irish, English and Welsh. My grandfather knew only that his great-grandfather came from Ulster. Anyone in that situation who refuses to consider that their ancestors were anything more than simply Irish will not learn much about his or her family tree. At the same time, of course, some of my Scottish ancestors in Ulster very likely married Irish. It is a puzzle. By the way, my husband's paternal grandmother was a Johnston; and I like Ramsay's toast. My understanding is that the original American term for someone from Ulster was Scotch-Irish, which led to the often incorrect assumption that the person thus was of mixed Scottish and Irish ancestry. The term Scots-Irish was an early but ineffective attempt at rectifying the situation. Today, I believe Ulster Scot is the preferred, and certainly clearer, term for a person whose ancestry was Scottish but who lived for one or more generations in Ulster.
