    3. Anyone can download a website and store the information on their own computer with some free software. HTtrack is one example. There is also waybackmachine that has archived billions of websites from 1996. http://www.archive.org/web/web.php The site is painfully slow, but it can get back websites that have gone away. HTtrack is free - free to download and use. It is described as: "It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online." Waybackmachine has the following description: "Browse through over 150 billion web pages archived from 1996 to a few months ago. To start surfing the Wayback, type in the web address of a site or page where you would like to start, and press enter. Then select from the archived dates available. The resulting pages point to other archived pages at as close a date as possible." Hope this helps someone. Alan. John Hogg wrote: > There are programs to download web sites. 3. The recent chat about geocities made me realize there's a free online resource I use from time to time which might be helpful to others on the list, although there is only one Irish database - Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958. The site also has a few English and Welsh records, as well as records from elsewhere in the world. At the following page, folks should use the clickable map to get to that part of the world where they're searching and then select a database to search. http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html# Europe, for example, will take you to links to search the Irish, English and Welsh databases. 3. We have been watching rumors about this for a few days. It now seems to have been confirmed so I'm passing the following message along: --------------------------- Seen on another list: You may have heard that Geocities will be closing down later this year (2009). There are many genealogy sites on Geocities, and sadly, many of these sites may be lost if the webmasters don't move the sites to a new location. Yahoo is not notifying anyone about this by e-mail and many webmasters have not updated their sites in years, so-- more likely than not--are not even aware the pages they have posted will be lost. You or someone you know may have genealogy information posted on a Geocities site. USGenWeb & Rootsweb also have had links to Geocities sites. Please help spread the word so genealogy websites won't be lost ------------------------ To climb up on my soapbox for a minute: This is just another example of the problem with the so called "free" genealogy sites. None of them are really free. Someone is paying for them and if it isn't you, either directly or by the access fee you pay, then you may loose access to it at any time without warning. ALWAYS keep this in mind when quoting a "free" site as a source of the data in your genealogy. OK, back on the ground now. :-) If any of you know of another list, or person, who might be interested in the above please consider being the "good Samaritan" and passing the news along Malcolm Archive CD Books Canada Inc. 3. Thank you all for the replies and links. Perhaps I'd better state why I started down this track. Thomas FITZPATRICK b c1851, (my post from a few day's back has more details): http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CoTyroneIreland/2009-05/1243132697 emigrated to New Zealand in 1866, coming from Omar County, (sic) Tyrone. I'm assuming Omagh as a starting point. >From Griffith's (printed 1860) I have 1) Thomas, Landlord: EARL of BELMORE County TYRONE Barony OMAGH, EAST Union OMAGH Parish CLOGHERNY Townland LEGACURRY And Tithe Applotments (1826) 2) John, Legacurry, Clogherny. My Thomas' father's name is given as John. So from this information and what your replies have said this would be the RC parish of Beragh, Archdiocese of Armagh?? Can I tell from this what church Thomas may have attended? Thanks to all Bryan

    3. Several weeks ago with the help of Laurel and Clare I now have my Martin familys' townland and parish name...Coolkeeragh townland and Longfield east parish and siblings names,,Joseph, Michael, Catherine, Ellen and Ann ( This possibly being shortened from Roseanna ).All this from a bank record. I knew Joseph was born in Ireland, Nov. 25, 1836, died Jan 3,1899 in South Carolina, this from his obit.. Michael was born 1826 and came to U.S. in 1858 and died there in 1886. This from his death cert.. Nothing known of brother Charles nor sister Catherine. Don't know if they came to N.Y. or stayed in Ireland. Sister Ellen married James McKenney/McKenna and Ann(Roseanna) married John McKenney/McKenna. This from the death certs. of Ellens' daughter ELLEN and Ann' daughter ROSANNA.These two ladies having come to U.S. and lived with their uncle JOHN MARTIN ,....and died in N.Y. Contacted two researchers and both have said basically impossible because of the dates I am searching for. These being Thomas Martin died 1837-1838 ,this according to a bank record of one of their sons John who came to N.Y. in 1846 in which he also says," his mother is Rose Mullin who is still living in Coolkeeragh". I have found that apparently the parish of Longfield East and Longfield West has been absorbed and is now Langfield. I am at a loss as to what to do now. I don't know what church was theirs to check records from, I don't know birth/baptisimal/marriage or death dates for the sisters or Charles to search that route. I have come to a stand still searching for probates and death certs. in N.Y. Is this where I throw in the towel? Suggestions ,please! Thanks again Laurel and Clare . 3. Hi Carolyn, I'm not sure I understood your note, esp. re which events were in Ireland and which in the US. But, according to William O'Kane, ed., HEATHER PEAT AND STONE: THE PARISHES OF CO. TYRONE (Dungannon: Irish World, 1992), the townland of Coolkeeragh is in the civil parish of Longfield East and the RC parish of Drumquin (aka Langfield). Note that LOngfield E and W are CIVIL parishes, and LAngfield is an RC parish. Grenham notes the following for dates and locations of surviving Langfield (RC) registers -- http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm? fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tyrone&parish=Langfield&churchid=364 The burial records (1853-1856) are too late for your Thomas Martin, but possibly not for your Rose Mullin, last reported alive in 1846. If the two sisters you mention married in Ireland, the surviving RC marriage records (1846-1880) might help. Depending on the sisters' ages and marriage dates, the baptism registers (1846-1880) might be helpful for tracing their children, if they stayed in the same parish after marriage. If your folks weren't RC, your best bet for identifying the relevant church records is James Ryan, IRISH RECORDS: SOURCES FOR FAMILY AND LOCAL HISTORY (Dublin: Flyleaf Press, 1997) (pub'd by Ancestry in the US). Hope that helps. Claire K. 3. Hi Bryan, Go to http://www.armagharchdiocese.org/parishes and Click on Beragh. You will see photos of the three churches (i.e., church buildings) in this parish. The townland of Legacurry is next to Seskinore, so chances are that the FITZPATRICKs from Legacurry would have attended services there at St. Malachy's -- but it doesn't matter, from a research standpoint. All three churches are one parish, with one set of sacramental records, so all you need to know is that it's the RC parish of Beragh. Comparing the maps, Grenham seems to have this RC parish as Ballintacker, with info on what records are available where, here -- http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/ index.cfm? fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tyrone&parish=Ballintacker&churchid= 186 So, yes, to answer your question, this would be Legacurry, in the RC parish of Beragh (maybe Ballintacker is an old name? does anyone know for sure?), Archdiocese of Armagh. Good luck at finding baptism and marriage records to prove you found the right family... ! Regards, Claire K.
