    1. [CoTyIre] James McKenna & Jane Carmody
    2. Jim McKenna
    3. Dear Listers: I'm hitting a brick wall in researching my Gr Gr Gr grandparents: JAMES McKenna and his wife JANE CARMODY in Co. Tyrone. Problem is that Carmody is a Co. Clare name and almost unheard of in the north. Genealogists have noted that many convent girls came north to work in the wealthy houses of Belfast and Armaugh. I have no DOB or date of marriage just an Ottawa Canada 1858 marriage record of my Gr Gr aunt (sister to my paternal ancestor Barnard McKenna) stating that James and Jane were her parents. I'm trying to trace them back so I can get a townland. Any suggestions? Desperate in Toronto Jim McKenna

If you to our own co tyrone web-site and search or look around, you will find the transcribed records for St.Lurans, Derryloran; along with a link to scans of the original records at St.Lurans' own web-site; from which our wonderful volunteer transcribers worked. 3. Kevin, With your advice and the web site I was able to find a Daniel Bradley in Drumard, Derryloran, Co Tyrone. I also found a Roger McKenna in Dernaved, Co Monaghan, Errigal Trough through another web site. Since this is near the border maybe it could be my Roger. Guess now I need to find the churches for these places so I can see if I can find any records. Thanks again. Pat

    3. Hello Audrey. To get a good handle on where most of the RAFFERTYs were located in County Tyrone in the mid 1800s, try a search at this wonderful Griffiths site: http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_start.php I'd also suggest looking at google maps for Cookstown, to give you some idea of nearby locations. Also look on this list's web-site under Maps for Townland and parish maps etc. to again give you some idea of which of the place-names which you might find in the Griffiths results, might be close to Cookstown. Don't forget to google more generally for them too. And don't forget www.seanruad.com for townland, poor law union, barony, etc. details. 3. Thank you Claire for the excellent explanation, complete with website and pictures. Both you and Bill Hazelton have been invaluable resources for me in my "Irish Research 101". I guess I just have that American mentality of defining a Catholic Church by its name rather than its area, i.e., St. Mary's, St. Jude's, St. Pat's, Our Lady of the Angels, et al rather than the Church in Rockport, the Church in Avon Lake, et al. And, I was quite surprised that the records from all 3 churches would be found at THE PARISH CHURCH OF DRUMGLASS. I never would have figured that out on my own. Very grateful to you and this List! 3. Per HEATHER, PEAT AND STONE: THE PARISHES AND TOWNLANDS OF TYRONE, ed. William O'Kane (Dungannon: Irish World, 1992): The townland of Killyneill is in the civil and RC parishes of Drumglass The townland of Lisnaclin is also in the civil and RC parishes of Drumglass The two townlands adjoin. See map on our list's site, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cotyroneireland/ maps/drumglass_tl.html with these townlands in the SE corner So, you're looking for the Drumglass parish church. For Drumglass, Killyman, and Tullyniskin RC churches (pictures, addresses, contact info), see the Archdiocese of Armagh's site http://armagharchdiocese.org/index.php? option=com_content&view=article&id=75:dungannon-drumglass-killyman-a- tullyniskin&catid=34:parishes Incidentally, the relevant question is which parish it is, not which church (i.e., which building) -- the parish records will cover all of the churches in the parish. Hope that helps. Claire K. On Jul 10, 2009, at 3:35 PM, Maura McCormick wrote: > I have 4 kids with Church Baprisms but no name of Church. The original Trummery House there was occupied by my mother's ancestors from 1728 until 1902. See my book Ringing True - the Bells of Trummery and Beyond - 350 Years of an Irish Quaker Family, pub. 2005 by sessions of York, ISBN 1-85072-329-X. a map in the book shows the locality; and carries an 1886 photo of Trummery House. Hoping to have been of some help to one or other of you, Best wishes, Bill Jackson

    1. [CoTyIre] Henderson/McKenna of Errigal Trough
    2. Foggin, James H (Jim)
    3. I am the GG Grandson of John Henderson and Mary McKenna, who emigrated from Errigal Trough, in either County Tyrone or County Monaghan, near Aughnacloy, around 1850. They settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they had a number of children, including my Great Grandfather, James Alexander Henderson. I know a great deal about him, but next to nothing about his parents. John (b. 1811) was a drayman in Pittsburgh. He died in 1871 and is buried in St. Mary's RC cemetery in Pittsburgh. Mary (b. 1825) died in 1905 and is buried with him. Several of their children are buried with them as well. I have some information about their origins from a travel diary that James kept of a trip they made in 1897. John used to go to market in Aughnacloy. John and Mary were married in a church in Errigal Trough. Mary had a sister Catherine McMahan who lived in Glaslough, County Monaghan, in 1897. Catherine had two sons and four daughters, two of whom were Margaret Donnelly, and Mary, a widow. Catherine also had two nephews, Thomas and Patrick Onay(?) McKenna who apparently still lived in Errigal Trough or in Aughnacloy at the time. This is all that I know of my Henderson and McKenna ancestry, and I would like to learn more. I would appreciate any information anyone might be able to add. Jim (James Henderson) Foggin Knoxville, Tennessee

    3. I'm searching for GGG grandparents Ann Meehan (or Mehan?) born in County Tyrone on 1 May 1826 and died in Mississippi on 1 July 1911. Ann immigrated to the US likely around 1846-48 and married William Bernard Daly (Dailey on some census) on 2 October 1849 in Mobile, Alabama. Bernard Daly (or Dailey) was born in County Tyrone on 2 April 1826 and immigrated to the US in 1846. He died in Mississippi on 6 Feb 1908. I'm looking for leads to Roman Catholic baptism records, birth records, ship passenger lists or any other leads anyone can suggest about where they came from and who were their parents names. Family history suggests they are either from Omagh or Armagh area, but all agree on County Tyrone. Searching links from County Tyrone website, I've found a Bernard Daly listed on a "tithe" list and another listing a Bernard Daly as a tenant farmer on an estate list in a townland called Enamar but can find no listing of that townland. I'm wondering if this is my Bernard's father?? I find a and a merchant with the name of Francis Meahan in Omagh on another site listed as a timber merchant and tobacco manufacturer (but if he was well to do -- that would NOT be my relatives if they immigrated during the famine.) -- Carol Emmett Windermere, FL USA 34786
