Hi, my girlfriend's maiden name is McGucken and her relatives still live in Cookstown County, Ireland more specifically Draperstown.
I've bumped into this web site - http://www.irishroots.com/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/ Is anyone familiar with it? It appears they sell books on this page, in particular a book about family genealogy in County Tyrone. http://www.irishroots.com/id4799.htm Seems a bit too good to be true. Comments? Thanks! Hello kind genies I am probably asking the silliest question, but it relates to my search for family who may have remained in Ireland, and who I believe I may have located in the 1911 census - all around the 50-65 year age group. When I search the online indexes for the LDS they say the records go up to 1958 - is it just that they have yet to be transcribed, or is there some other reason I cannot find them. (In their case, I am looking for death notices). If there is somewhere else I should be looking, please can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance! Cheers Karen
For those interested in late medieval English soldiery (1369-1453), http://www.icmacentre.ac.uk/soldier/database/ now has three databases -- the muster rolls database of just under 90,000 entries, the letters of protection and powers of attorney database of just under 20,000 records, and the garrison database of more than 110,000 records and growing (mostly re the occupation of Normandy from 1415-1453). The first two are based on materials housed at The National Archives (TNA), the third, mostly from French repositories. Note, the first and third give information such as name of soldier, rank, commanding officer, campaign, etc. -- but not necessarily enough biographical information to identify places of origin. The second (protection) gives similar info, as well as county, occupation, and nationality, etc., though not all entries will have all fields of info. A quick search of common names was disappointing, though -- no Kellys, one Smith -- and less common names were surprising (3 Harleys, probably 3 references to the same man). So, play with it -- but don't be surprised if you don't get any hits, unless you already know some relatives were in the medieval English army. There are English and Welsh; perhaps you will find some Irish connections. This may be most useful for those doing one-name studies. Enjoy the databases! Claire K seekay@comcast.net
I am looking for the marriage of Thomas Watt and Martha Alcock c 1855. They immigrated to Canada the same year Thomas was the son of John Watt and Mary ? I would be very grateful for any help Julie
Hi Joan and all I can confirm that Cappagh is in Volume 5. I purchased my copy some time ago through an on-line bookseller. Did a "speed read" but couldn't see any reference to a town of Ballynatubbrit. Hope this is some help. Ian Scott Perth Western Australia At 05:39 AM 6/11/2009, Joan wrote: >Do you mean volume 5? Hi Joan It is not included in Volume II. What is it you want to know? Ballynatubbrit is a townland rather than a town - an area consisting (probably of a number of farms. Hi Joan I don't know if this helps you BUT....my gg grandparents were married in Cappagh Parish and moved back there in 1856. They lived in the town Bonnynubber/Bunnynubber, which is near Omagh.
