Hi Deb, The GRO (for the Republic of Ireland) is no longer in Dublin, it was moved to Roscommon a few years ago although it still retains a research facility in Dublin which has moved from Lombard Street to The Irish Life Centre, Lower Abbey Street. You can only order photo copies from Dublin if you are on a personal visit to the research room there. If you want to order by post you have to send to Roscommon now. You can order photo copies for 4 Euro each (when reference numbers are supplied) although it doesent say so on the GRO's website. You can order photo copies (sufficient for family history purposes), from the GRO in Roscommon for the six counties of Northern Ireland up until 1921. Unfortunately they haven't developed a secure online payment system yet, methods of payment currently acceptable are mentioned on their website, the link follows and also a link to the General Register Office of Northern Ireland. http://www.groireland.ie/ http://www.groni.gov.uk/ Hope this is of some help, Bernie -----Original Message----- From: cotyroneireland-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cotyroneireland-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Deborah Fox Sent: 01 December 2009 20:13 To: cotyroneireland@rootsweb.com Subject: [CoTyIre] BMD I remember a discussion on this list about going in person to the GRO in Dublin and obtaining BMD certificates. Ireland. He immigrated to America in 1843 and resided in South Butler Twp., Butler Co., Pa. He was (1) married to Miss McGaugh 2) John King (1672-1747) was born in Dungannon, Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. He was the father of six children. He and his family later immigrated to Adams County, Pennsylvania. May we all receive a fantastic Christmas gift of an ancestor or 2!!! Cheers~ Teena
If one of the above names is in your family, I would love to hear from you. Family was around Curlough, and Caledon area But sure some went to Belfast too. Sheila
The National Archives of Ireland has pushed back the date for uploading the digitized 1901 Irish census, to late 2009 / early 2010 (no precise dates given). Meanwhile, the 1901 Tyrone census is indexed on microfiche (available at many libraries / depositories) in a binder published by Largy Books, Linda Meehan, ed. As far as I know, it's out of print, but copies are findable (at least in the cities I frequent). Try world.cat to see if a library near you has it available. (Sorry, I just checked, that doesn't help -- only two libraries have entered it into worldcat -- the National Library of NZ and the State Library of NSW. You'll have to do it the old-fashioned way, and check the catalogs of specific libraries you're interested in). Or you can check the LDS Family Search catalog to get the information you need to order in the microfilm to a FHC near you. Hope that helps. Thank you to Bill for the link to the Coleraine Family History Society. For anyone else interested in this database go to the home page (link below) and click on Projects and you will find information on the index to the above newspaper. Hi All, I purchased a CD of the "Londonderry Sentinel" through the West Tyrone Historical Society at an Ulster-American symposium in Omagh about a year ago. I hope this information helps. Kevin
Hi Listers Has anyone heard of an index of births, marriage, deaths to the Londonderry Sentinel (1829-1869)? If so could you tell me where it is available and the cost please? Apparently it has notices of people from Tyrone in the index. Many thanks Kerrie

Searching for birth information, baptism, etc., for a John WITHERSPOON in the 1720-30 period. May have been the son of Thomas and Flora WITHERSPOON. They were Presbyterians who migrated to Londonderry area from the Glasgow area of Scotland in the late 16 or early 1700s. Emigrated to America c1746. Thanks for any information where these records might be found. Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem, NC USA

I have a relative , James McGucken, who was living at 3 Old Cookstown Road, Cookstown Urban, Tyrone on the 1911 census. Could someone tell me what post office directories are available that would allow me to limit my search for James's death and burial. regards Lyn Baker
