    1. [CoTyIre] Genealogy research in an ld cemetery
    2. Maisie Egger
    3. A really helpful article about doing genealogy research in an old (this time Irish) cemetery. It is a timely reminder of how some headstones have been ruined by rank genealogy amateurs...however, in drought prone California, rain water is as scarce as hens’ teeth! https://www.aletterfromireland.com/irish-genealogist-monasterboice-county-louth/ (Thanks to Ruth Enns for introducing me to A Letter From Ireland.) 1. [CoTyIre] Tracing Bracegirdles in Ireland
    2. Julie Tadman
    3. Hoping to make contact with any descendants of the Reverend George Bracegirdle, Rector of Donagheady, and his wife Hannah. George died in 1768, and Hannah in 1781. We know they had children with them, but so far the lack of records, church and cemetery, have given no results. Their wills of course have gone and I am at a loss as to where to look next. They came to Ireland with a "large family" according to records on PRONI and later PRONI records show that there may have only been one or two surviving, possibly girls. Did they marry there? There may be descendants in the area. I know the son, Frederick (not Patrick as shown in the PRONI letters) died in Virginia. The family lived in Strabane not Donagheady and possibly are buried there, although the cemetery records do not seem to be available. Any suggestions or help gratefully received. So far contact with the local council have proved fruitless but your knowledge may win the day and will be much appreciated. Also looking to make contact with any Bracegirdles in Ireland and Northern Ireland generally as part of a DNA project. Many thanks Julie Tadman

    3.  Greetings Russ It is great you have made a connection with DNA to re-ignite your hunt.  There is a great tool to help estimate the degree of relationship of a DNA match, where you dont yet have a tree using the cM value of shared match - called the 'shared match tool' available free on the DNA Painter website, DNA Painter: Tools | | | | | | | | | | | DNA Painter: Tools DNA Painter Useful tools and resources for genetic genealogy | | | The resources on this website are great for anyone who wishes to go on to more advanced techniques with their DNA results Kind Regards Cheryl    1. 3. Hi Maisie I understood that your nephew David (I think) visited Donaghmore a year or two ago and met all the local folk. via DNA results Pat O’Neil my third cousin and founder of Donaghmore historical society worked out that there was a clear line of descent with the Foygh Skeffington family which is my family. Happy to send more info. 3. Dear listers, I post this over the years, just in case it sounds very familiar...in the hopes! My husband's great-grandfather, Patrick Skiffington, was born about 1814, possibly in Donaghmore. Other than that he was on a passenger list around 1840 on the Jane Walker shown as Pat. Skiffington, born Ireland, that is as much as we have on him. However, we have a lot of fill-ins when he arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, where he married Bridget Kelly, Ireland (and that is ALL we have of her in Ireland). They married 1840 in The Basilica of the Blessed Assumption, Baltimore, Maryland. He and Bridget had a large family born in Baltimore. Patrick Skiffington fought in the American Civil War, fell on his bayonet, and died in 1863. Need it be said, I have used the services of paid genealogists and got nowhere. One fellow suggested that all the records for Donaghmore were in Dungannon, for which he drew a blank. Any suggestions or notions where I could possibly find Patrick Skiffington's roots around Donaghmore, parentage, siblings, etc? All of the RW lists were down for a long time while Ancestry rewrote the code from scratch so that it would be compatible with current technology requirements. But that phase is over, happily, so now all we need is folks writing in again. Hope to see lots more activity on the list! So, send in your questions and let???s get the conversation(s) started again! 2. Like you I have had no contact with Co Tyrone for ages, but I am not really following that line at the moment. If you Google Rootsweb Mailing lists you will find 4 lists to choose from. There was, I think, a need to re subscribe.
