In the Days of the Laggan Presbytery<http://www.cotyroneireland.com/estore/index.php?maincat_id=1&subcat_id=3> By Rev. Alexander G. Lecky, B.A. Published 1908, 148 pages In the Preface, Rev. Leck writes “these everyday transactions gives us a clearer picture of some phases of the social and religious life of by-gone times than would a record of the more important events with which the historian deals.” The writer gleans a great volume of important information from the Minutes of the Laggan Presbytery including its origin, the division of the Presbytery, its subsequent re-unification which is followed by the re-division into three Presbyteries. He also discusses travel problems in the area and congregational disputes which include those between Strabane and Donagheady as well as Urney and Letterkenny. The book includes transcriptions of the wills of Rev. Robert Cunningham, Mrs. Frances Cunningham and Rev. Hugh Cunningham; the names of the ministers of the Laggan Presbytery; and the names of those attending Presbytery meetings from 1672-1700 as Ruling Elders and Commissioners. Hello, Does anyone know when the next UK Census will be coming through after WW11? Thank you. Shannah TWISS from Canada [email protected]
Does anyone know how to find a ship record/manifest for the following? I'm looking for my ggg grandfather's brother Andrew Murphy who supposedly emigrated on this ship. Brig Sylvanus, Belfast to Quebec http://ied.dippam.ac.uk/records/34807 Thanks for any help, Ally
Hello Listers Just a final word on the 1926 census of Northern Ireland. It was not destroyed by German bombs, it was pulped by unnamed civil servants within the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1940 as such an amount of paper was considered to be a major fire hazard in war time. This is not a shocking new revelation. It has been common knowledge for many years that the 1926 census for NI did not exist. I don't think that it's loss will affect greatly genealogists in that most of the enquiries I receive are for 1826 or 1726, not 1926 best regards Robert www.ulsterancestry.com > Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2013 19:46:53 -0400 > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] > Subject: [CoTyIre] Links for Census on one web site > > Found a new web site (for me at least), thought I'd share. Hi all In the last few days Ancestry added several databases which are on the face of it for Canada connections re the military Canada, British Army Regimental Rolls of Non-commissioned Officers and Soldiers, 1806-1892 A search for keyword Tyrone gets 215 hits UK, Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioner Registers of Soldiers Who Served in Canada, 1743-1882 gets 1,642 hits There are several other databases which may be worth checking out in a similar fashion Results vary enormously from one line to several pages or a complete service record Two things I found, one for a brother of my g.g.grandfather, born in Suffolk he served in the British Army and had his leg amputated in was discharged in 1851 (just before the census) his full pension record is in the above database In another hit I found 11 mentions of a man I believe to be a brother of another g.g.grandfather who ended up in Ohio , he appears in Militia lists in Canada up to 1843, another significant find as I had no idea he went there from Yorkshire before going to Ohio So perhaps worth checking these new databases out To find the new DBs check under View All New Records on the home page I assume you would need Worldwide or Canada to interrogate the hits but you should be able to search without the sub -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
Quite so Michael I assumed (a dangerous thing to do at the best of times) that the enquiry was regarding the North So your post be be the salve for my burn :-) (or not as the case may be) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 15/06/2013 11:42, Mike Kelly wrote: > Isn't this only for Northern Ireland and not The Republic of Ireland as > well? > As I understand it, Northern Ireland was attacked during WW2 and the > Republic remained neutral. > If the records for the Republic were held in Dublin is there not a > chance they still survived the war? > > I think I just answered my own question here. > > http://britishgenes.blogspot.com/2013/05/northern-irish-1926-census-records.html > > > The Republic will likely see a release in the near future. > > To answer the question about when the next census records were taken > which was discussed previously follow this link. > > http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/help/history.html > > > > Regards, > > Michael Kelly
HI, Am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that these are two different databases. That from PRONI is a Calendar of entries, and also has some full images. Being from PRONI it is mainly concerned with Northern Ireland. And the FamilySearch offering is from the National Archives of Ireland; it mainly covers the Republic, and is a Calendar of entries only. Hi Shannah Sorry for the bad news :-( I think the consensus is that the 1926 does not exist any longer so will never be released Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 15/06/2013 00:05, Ava Woods wrote: > Hello, > > I was wondering, please, if SKS might be able to send me a website for the > 1926, or, even an update as to when it is finally coming out? > > Thank you. > > Shannah TWISS
Isn't this only for Northern Ireland and not The Republic of Ireland as well? As I understand it, Northern Ireland was attacked during WW2 and the Republic remained neutral. If the records for the Republic were held in Dublin is there not a chance they still survived the war? I think I just answered my own question here. http://britishgenes.blogspot.com/2013/05/northern-irish-1926-census-records.html The Republic will likely see a release in the near future. To answer the question about when the next census records were taken which was discussed previously follow this link. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/help/history.html Regards, Michael Kelly Emporium, Cameron County, Pennsylvania, United States of America -----Original Message----- From: Nivard Ovington Sent: Saturday, June 15, 2013 4:38 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [CoTyIre] TWISS family--re: 1926 Census Hi Shannah Sorry for the bad news :-( I think the consensus is that the 1926 does not exist any longer so will never be released Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 15/06/2013 00:05, Ava Woods wrote: > Hello, > > I was wondering, please, if SKS might be able to send me a website for the > 1926, or, even an update as to when it is finally coming out? > > Thank you. > > Shannah TWISS ------------- Our community web-site: http://cotyroneireland.com/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Please note that in the wills I just checked the beneficiary's names are actually the executors' names. These are wills for which I have the actual complete will image (from PRONI). Judith
Hi Margaret, Thanks for this - as always the good folks at the LDS make searching easy. I searched for George Joyce and found him and then searched for George Joice, a common variant, and he was still there. Do that at the PRONI Wills database and you won't find him because it is so spelling sensitive But do remember one thing. PRONI does have quite a few of the actual wills photographed now and online at their website. Including my George Joyce. There was no mention of that at the Fs website. You could miss a lot if you do not use the two together.
