Hi all An interesting pointer in Eastmans newsletter to an article in the Irish Times <http://www.irishtimes.com/news/eu-regulation-could-restrict-genealogical-research-1.1440075> -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)
Hi Janet, Do you know the religion(s) of James and Elizabeth? Roman Catholic or Protestant? Do I understand correctly that James and Elizabeth came to NY? NYC or state of NY? If NYC, have you looked for NYC death records, which might give you more detail? Indices available on www.germangenealogygroup.com or www.italiangen.com The same records are available on both sites, just a slightly different interface, and both have links to order the documents from NY archives. Good luck! I was just informed that the link below did not work. When I looked at it I found that it is truncated. This is a 'TinyURL' for it. Hopefully it will work. If this doesn't work when you click on it, just copy and paste it into the URL address bar: http://tinyurl.com/l94nvpf Sorry for the broken link, I don't understand why all the links I post break Ally -------Original Message------- From: [email protected] Date: 6/22/2013 10:06:27 AM To: [email protected]; Irish-American; [email protected]; [email protected]; OCGSNY Subject: Update on GRO Northern Ireland online records project A good article on BMD records release. http://britishgenes.blogspot com/2013/06/update-on-gro-northern-ireland-online.html?spref=fb Ally

This is from the Irish Genealogy Toolkit website: An Irish census wasn't taken in 1921 due to the civil war which was raging throughout the island at that time. However, one was taken in 1926: the Irish Free State Census. This is scheduled to be released in 2026 but the Irish Government has approved plans to release it early, as one of the major 1916-anniversary commemorative projects. The free access as I understand it is access to the *index* records of births, marriages, and deaths which are already freely available to search on familysearch.org. I am *not* aware of Findmypast.ie having a different or enhanced version of the index records (such as noting additional details such as the sub-district to which the event was registered. For example, in the Gortin Reg. Dist. distinguishing events registered at the Plumb Bridge sub-district versus the Gortin sub-district) From, Clare L. Hi Kevin I suspect that has been superseded, it looks like the 1926 will be released on the 1st Jan 2027 and not before See <http://www.irishtimes.com/blogs/irishroots/2013/06/17/not-the-1926-news/> Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 21/06/2013 12:35, Kevin Nash wrote: > This is from the Irish Genealogy Toolkit website: > An Irish census wasn't taken in 1921 due to the civil war which was > raging throughout the island at that time. Hi out there, does anyone know where I might be able to access the records of the workhouse in Clogher for circa the period 1909 ? i'm searching for a James Tague / Teague who had lived in Belfast and I've discovered the death record of a man of this name in the workhouse in Clogher. the death record said he was from Belfast.it is possible that this James moved back to Tyrone to be in his home county when he died. i'm not sure if Clogher was his home place or if it was the closest work house to wherever in the county his home was. does anyone know if there were other workhouses in the surrounding areas ? if there are any local historians out there would ye know if Clogher may have ever been regarded as being in County Monaghan ? the reason is that in the census the person who I believe to be James son listed his place of birth as Monaghan. all leads welcomed. Hello, Eamonn, There are microfilms of the workhouse registers available from the LDS, but I don't think they cover the 20th century. The Diocese of Clogher consists of County Monaghan, much of County Fermanagh with parts of Counties Tyrone, and Donegal. Place names in Ireland can be problematic, with overlapping and unrelated places with the same or similar names. Good luck!
