    2. Neal Middlebrook
    3. Michael Cosgrove (b. abt. 1820) was living in County Tyrone when his son Patrick was b. in1839. Michael first married Catherine Hines and then Catherine Owens. A daughter Catherine was b 1855 and a son James was b. 1856 near Fintona. We suspect the family first lived near Omagh and then moved to Donacavey Parish. Another son Michael died about 1916, supposedly near Fintona. A gravestone inscription of James Cosgrove (1851-1884) at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery, about a half mile west of Fintona reads, "Erected by James Cosgrove in Memory of his Beloved Son, James, Died 25th March, 1884, aged 27 years. RIP”. Any information or help on the Cosgrove family would be very much appreciated.

I visited the Drumragh graveyard recently. It is very overgrown and no longer used. Your reference to the Tombstones of the Omey means nothing to me. Can you clarify please? My McGinns are from the Glengarny, Cormore and Tattyreath Glebe areas. The cemetry at Eskra (Cormore) has several, some of whom are my family. No Christian name of Philip appears, as far as I know. There may be Girvans but I was not looking for that name. I will be happy to supply details of my finding if you think it will help. Best wishes for the festive season. 3. Hi, Have you looked on the 1901 and 1911 Census for Ireland on this site? http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ Search for all the names you know - do you have any of the sisters names? On Family Search there is a William Johnston born to Andrew and Nancy 11/8/1865 and Annie in 1870 & Wallace in 1867. Also a Joseph born Tyrone 1861 in Military records and a Joseph Benjamin Johnston in Chelsea pensioners records showing as being born in 1862 in Tyrone. Family Search also has a record of a marriage between Nancy Wallace and Andrew Johnston in 3/9/1860 in Cookstown Co Tyrone and notes that Nancy's father was William Wallace so that ties in a birth of a child and the name William. It might pay to look at Irish naming patterns as well. Nancy and Andrew were having children just on the cusp of when civil registration began in Ireland (1864) so there may be children born after the marriage and before 1864 and by looking a naming patterns you might be able to find out what these children's name were? Also look for Johnson as well. They were not as particular on spelling as nowadays. Good luck Cathy On 13/12/13 10:11 PM, "E. 3. Elisabeth, I took a look online on rootsireland.ie to see if it listed children of Andrew Johnston and Nancy Wallace and there were three hits. >From there I took a look at www.familysearch.org and found the following: William Johnston Born 11 Aug 1865 in Coagh https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FR92-L5T Wallace Johnston Born 30 Oct 1867 in Coagh https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FPCC-WW5 Annie Johnston Born 17 June 1867 in Coagh https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FPJG-QS8 Keep in mind Civil Registration for births, deaths, and marriages did not start until 1865 So there could very well be other children not accounted for here. I was also able to find on www.rootsireland.ie that Andrew Johnston and Nancy Wallace married in Cookstown Tyrone in 3 Sep 1860 Andrew's father's name was Joseph. Nancy's father's name was William. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FG6R-F6R I trust that the two sisters and brother Joe were all born prior to Civil Registration. One of these could be your Joseph in the 1901 or 1911 Census in Co. Antrim but I do not believe they are the same person. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Shankill/Tudor_Place/160143/ http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Dock_Ward/Fleet_Street/1003270/ If I think of anything else to look for I will let you know. Regards, Michael Kelly Emporium, Cameron County, Pennsylvania, United States of America P.S. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all on the list.

    3. After years of searching, I found evidence on the CoTyrone site that my great-grandmother Annie Johnston, born 1870 in Coagh, was the daughter of Andrew Johnston and Nancy Wallace, and apparently had a brother Wallace. The first record I can find of Annie was in the 1891 English census after she'd moved to Manchester and married George Harry Brown. However, family stories say that she had two sisters, and a brother Joe (there's no mention of a Wallace). One of the sisters moved to Belfast and was living there in the 1940s. Do any of you have an idea of where to look next? Hopefully, Elisabeth

    2. This listserv has been wonderful. I want to especially thank those of you who are helping me search my family's roots in Tyrone. The search is ongoing, of course, and that is the gift you have given me. I can now see the threads that must be followed. I would not have seen them without your help. My family came from the Mountjoy area and settled in Coshocton, OH: James Moore and his descendants: Bock or Boak, Buchanan, Given and McMains. I am from the Given line which ended up in Randall, KS, and Twin Falls, ID. As I plan my trip to Ireland in 2014, I will be able to visit their homeland. VERY exciting. Thank you! And Happy Holidays to all of you!!! Monta Lee Dakin Littleton, CO

    3. Fellow Tyrone Listers - After several years searching, I am happy to report that I have traced my 2nd great grandparents McGarrity, and all but one of their children. Uncle John is still proving elusive. Michael McGarrity (son of John McGarrity and Rose O'Neill) married Sarah Hughes (daughter of James Hughes and Sarah Donnelly) just before Civil Registration. I still hope to find their RC marriage record. Michael died 22 Feb 1912, in Tyrone Sarah died 10 May 1891, in Tyrone Their children Mary, born 14 Aug 1864, immigrated to Philadelphia, married Michael J Donnelly, also from Tyrone. They had 6 children, 4 lived to adulthood. Mary died 28 Jul 1917 and is buried in Philadelphia. John, born 20 Jun 1866 - the elusive Catherine, born 21 Mar 1868 - my great grandmother, immigrated first to New York, then to New Jersey. Married first Thomas Nelis and second William L Donnelly, had 8 children, 5 lived to adulthood. Died 6 Feb 1951 in New Jersey. Sarah Anne, born 26 Mar 1870 - immigrated to Philadelphia. Died, single, 10 Sep 1888 of typhoid pneumonia and is buried there. Patrick, born 22 Nov 1871 - immigrated to Philadelphia. Died 21 Mar 1936 and is buried there. No known issue. Michael, 6 Feb 1874 - immigrated to Yorkshire North Riding. Married Sarah O'Neill, the daughter of Tyrone parents. Had 3 known children and died in Yorkshire in 1940. Margaret, born 18 Nov 1875 - stayed in Tyrone until after the death of her parents, then immigrated to the USA. Lived in New York City for a few years. Died 14 Jul 1932, single, no issue, in New Jersey and is buried with my GGM. James, born 1 Apr 1879 - died 20 Aug 1891 in Tyrone, of consumption. Thanks to everyone on this board who has offered support, advice and how-tos. I'll be taking a couple of weeks off from searching, to visit with family in warmer climes. I will forward to you off-line, some notes which I have recently sent to Robert in response to his postings. You seem to be fortuntate, in that from what you have posted here, it seems that your MOORHEADs were located for a long time at Derryloran. Mine seem to have moved around frequently. grrrr….. 3. Hello Sandy, There wouldn't be any travel documents for this time as Ireland and Scotland were both members of the United kingdom and internal travel was not recorded. At one point Ireland and Scotland are only about 12 miles apart and can see each other on a clear day so travel between the two countries was, and is, common. For Scottish documents try www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk It is a pay site but there is a free surname search which might help, Rob Doragh Liverpool UK Date: Mon, 9 Dec 2013 07:17:06 From: [email protected] Subject: [CoTyIre] emigrants to Scotland My husband's gr grandparents, James and Matilda Fleming Loughry married in Fintona, Tyrone in 1845 and are next found in the 1851 census in Mearns, Renfrewshire, Scotland.
