"There is no register of the period extant in the parish; and it is supposed by the present clergyman that no register was then kept." His father, James Gibson was a land Surveyor. In 1757 he left home to go to the US to make claim against some lands owned by his deceased uncle. He went to leave from Waterford but was pressed on board the Alcive, q 64 gun ship commanded by Sir James Douglas. Palliser was a 1st lieutenant on that ship and convinced Gibson to enlist. Etc.
