Hi, Can anyone please be of help? I am researching a family that have lived for over 200 years in Banard/Barnard near Newcastle Co. Tipperary. The name goes back to at least 1778 where I found it referred to in a will as Baneard. Banard is not a townland but seems to form the upper portion of the townlands of Boolahallagh and Garryduff and also include Pastor Ville. I would like to confirm the above and also find the boundaries of Banard. Any help would be appreciated. Maurie. Melbourne, Australia. ------------------------------------------------------------ This email was sent from Netspace Webmail: http://www.netspace.net.au
Maurie, I have tried to respond to your email to me regarding Banard/Barnard but it is rejected. Any suggestions. Hi Maurie, I hope Pete has something more on this. I can find all the other towns and assuming Boulisallagh is the same as Boolahallagh and that Pastor's Villa is Priest Towne, they are all there except Baneard, which sounds more like a district name than a townland, as you guessed. Baneard would just translate out as "Beautiful height" and may be a very old name.
