John Unfortunately the National Archives have changed their website and the former Ireland Australia transportation database is not available for the moment . There is a .csv file of the database available but I don't know how to search it properly. You will find the link to this file on the home page of the Archives website under Women's history and transportation resources. If you can search it and find the correct Denis Shanahan there may be a reference to a CRF file that sometimes may give more information. I did find a Denis Shanahan from Tipperary transported on the Hulk Surprise 7 Aug 1836 but it doesn't match your details. Newpapers of the time may not have specific details of outcomes of trials often they just note that transportation sentences were given but not mention names. Have you got all his Australian records as sometimes they give more information. Not sure if this helps.
