I am hoping that someone on this list can help me find more information on the above. John FLANAGAN obtained a Law degree from Trinity and was admitted to the Queen's Bench in Dublin as a Solicitor in January 1852. In 1855 he decided to immigrate to Australia, arriving in December 1855 on the RED JACKET accompanied by a Mary RYAN 25 yrs (sister in law perhaps). He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1856 and he practised Law around the Kyneton area up to about 1870 as far as I was able to research. His wife Catherine FLANAGAN (O'Flanagan) immigrated to Australia arriving in January 1857 accompanied by daughters Mary (18 yrs), Honora (23 yrs) and Ellen (infant) on the AFRICA. Catherine died in 1868 in Daylesford, Victoria, but have not been able to find a death for John FLANAGAN as I have BEEN unable to ascertain who his parents were. Catherine's parents were recorded on her death registration as John RYAN, storekeeper, and Mary. His daughter Mary married a John BROPHY and then a William de Renzi McCAUSLAND whereas Ellen FLANAGAN became the partner of Thomas Banks SKIDMORE in the 1890's in Sydney, NSW, Australia. I have no idea what became of Honora FLANAGAN or Mary RYAN. Shirlee Wellington, NZ

Shirlee, Have you tried Trinity for records or listing from the bar or Queen's counsel? Also try trove- the newspapers in Aus. For an obit of a solicitor for the Kyneton papers? What about the actual solicitors office, If it was Palmers, the current owners still have a history section at the office.
