    3. Elizabeth I've forwarded your email to Ted Meehan who runs the Meehan-L list on rootsweb. I believe Thomas Meehan from Kilcoran is his ancestor. My Meehan/Mehigan ancestors came to Castletownroche, County Cork, in the late 1700's. In 1690 Christopher the O'Meighan, our common ancestor was killed in the Battle of the Boyne. His widow, Marguarite O'Reilly and their three youngest sons went to Kilcoran, a farm which remained in the family for over 300 years. (I have some pictures of the farm from my Ireland trip last summer I can send you if you're interested.) Their two oldest sons went to France and continued fighting in the French army. One of them, James (or Jacques), married an Elizabeth Russell. One of their son's Guillaume (William) was a political activist and writer who spent some time in the Bastille for his views. (He didn't lose his head or I wouldn't be writing this). On his death in 1766 his widow Charlotte Therese Boitel and infant son Jean Joseph (John Joseph) joined the rest of the family at Kilcoran. Jean Joseph's son Robert went to Castletownroche, probably because he would never inherit the Kilcoran farm. My line (Daniel, Garrett, John Joseph, John Joseph Jr.) descends from him. Ted has written a fascinating book on the clan history going way back "Annals of O'Meighan". We even have a saint in our ancestry - St. Molaise, a Meehan and patron saint of the Meehan/Mehigan/O'Meighan clan. He lived in the 400's and was head of the church in Ireland at that time. (Way back then priests could marry - the vow of celibacy wasn't instituted I believe until the 1300's). Happy hunting. Bob Meehan Dunwoody Georgia USA
