Cathy, Many years ago my daughter Aileen decided she wanted to work on genealogy of her 4 grandparents. I have been working with her ever since. My husband's ggrandmother was Anna Darmody (spelling varies a lot). She was born in Vermont around 1836. She married John Walsh. She died in Elma, Iowa. The Darmodys seem to have been in Wisconsin and Iowa. We have her in censuses 1850,1860,1870,1880, 1885. Where are your Dermodys from? Any of those places? I do have a membership with Ancestry and love it for searching but find the family tree stuff is not the greatest as so many people take what is in there and add on to it if it is right or not. Oh well. Thanks again for all the info you sent. Best, Pat
Hi Pat, I am descended from Dermodys that originally came from Ireland to Ontario, Canada about 1832. The 'original' family members all stayed in Ontario (some near Lake Simcoe and some in Grey Co., east of Lake Simcoe). However, there are some of their descendents who went to Kansas and to Michigan. My side of the Dermody family stayed in Ontario for a period of time and then went to western Canada. However, one never knows if there is a link back - perhaps a sibling went to Canada and another to the USA. Who knows!!?? If you wish to contact me for further information, please use my email at cdermody@accesscomm.ca rather than go through the public mailing list. Thanks for your note, Pat!
