Dear All I'm new to this list and to resreaching in Ireland, though reasonably experienced on the English side, so I'm a bit lost in looking for info re my great great grandmother Ann BRENNAN. According to the 1851 and 1861 censuses Ann was born in a place called Monroe in Co Tipperary which I have been unable to find anything about, except that it may be the place that appears in a 19th century directory as being near Nenagh. She would have been born in about 1820 according to her census age. In 1851 and 1861 she is married to John LOVATT (or Lovett) who was a private soldier in the 37th Regiment, born in Buckinghamshire. I can't find either of them in 1841 and wonder if they may have been in Ireland then and if they met while John was posted there. In 1851/61 they are living in Chatham, Kent, John was still serving in 1851 but had retired by 1861 and was working at the Royal Engineers depot as a servant. Children shown in the censuses are John, born about 1844 in Sunderland, Sarah (my great grandmother) about 1847 , James about 1849 and Thomas about 1850, the last three all born in Chatham. The couple may therefore have been married post 1837 but I can't trace a marriage in England or Wales and woonder if they were married in Ireland. Also I can't trace any of the childrens' baptisms in the Anglican registers in Chatham so wonder if they were baptised as Catholics. Could anyone please help me with any info regarding Ann's baptism and/or marriage and where exactly Monroe is? Best wishes David Williams
