That is, they are mostly written in Latin. I found the handwriting very difficult to read. I did my Cashel & Emly research, many years before the A.B. came to the position he still holds. (He came from the Kerry diocese). Because these records were photographed for microfilm many years ago, before we had the technology we have today, they are rather fuzzy. What I am saying is, it is a long and tedious task to try and read through them. Each cert. is reproduced in full. Some have comments like pauper, refering to the parents of the child. Some have illegitimate, refering to the child. Personally, I am of the opinion that the church is reluctant to let us see what some priests wrote on those certs at that time. Some of the remarks would be so un-PC today. Unless you have endless time to spend in the National Library in Dublin, I would suggest that you apply to the Excel centre in Tipperary town for the Cashel & Emly records. For North Tipperary to the Genealogical Centre in the Heritage Centre in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. Part of Cashel & Emly is in North Tipperary. I am not trying to influence anyone, all I am saying is that if time is scarce, you would be better off paying the fees and getting the work done for you. I don't know what the delay factor is in the centres. Do your homework well in advance of coming here on holiday. There is a huge demand for this material, and there can be long delay factors. Happy searching, wishing you all good results. When you do find the area you are looking for, locate the local historians. Don't settle for one person, that way you will get a wider picture. And, lastly, do have a good time when you come to Ireland. Bee. < < < Today's Topics: < < 1. Re: Cashel & Emly Records (DP & EM O Connell) < 2.
