Was it common for the Irish to go to Manchester, England to earn money for their passage to America? In the 1881 Salford, Lancashire census , my great granfather John Flanagan,b 1863, Tipperary, blacksmith, seems to be listed. He seems to be in NYC in the mid 1880s and then in Cleveland, Ohio. Thanks. Tim
