From the Hibbert Review, by Isabella Campbell, 1953 - 1959 Concession 12, Lot 30, Hibbert, Perth County, Ontario Michael O`KEEFE, a native of Tipperary, took up Lot 30 in 1850 and that year James DAVEY did some slashing on it for him. In the fall of 1851 he and his wife, the former Margaret Gleason, came here to live, with his deed in his pocket. They had five children - David, Ellen (Mrs Joseph KEATING), Bridget (Mrs John DEVERAUX), John and Mary Ann. Mary Ann is still living, she is now 94. After Michael O`KEEFE got his first small crop harvested, he went to Woodstock and worked on a farm for 6 weeks. While there he earned enough to pay his taxes and to buy a door and windows for his new log house. Many others did as he did, so that they could get a few needed extras. Mrs. O?KEEFE made good home-made cheese with a small press they had while here. After the O?KEEFE family moved to Seaforth in 1883 their son John rented the family farm for five years. He also bought cattle, shortly after John FITZGERALD rented it, the house was burned on New Years night. Later FITZGERALD bought the farm. It was William MOONEY who built the white brick house which is still in use. His son Victorr was a minister and another son lived her for a few years then moved to London (Ontario).
