Jan- janjames1@westnet.com.au Jan is not a member of this list and so therefore I am forwarding this to here in the hope that any of you with more knowledge on the subject will assist Jan, in her compiling of data on these folk of Ireland and elsewhere. Jan Wrote - I am compiling a biographical Index on all "Tinker, Gypsy, Traveller, Romany" people who came to Australia either as Convict or Free settlers. If anyone can help with either known names or sites where I could look to find the many ROMs who were transported to this country I would be most grateful. Mostly the only way to find them is by their occupations. and I have been able to list the ones that follow. I put the word in a "keyword" and that is usually very successful; Rag picking, Horse breaking, cutler, scavenger, scaver, rat catcher, Char women, higgle, building trades, tinker, gypsy, traveller, scrap dealer, brazier, stick or broom maker, umbrella maker, peddler, white smith,Egyptian, tinsmith, hawker, showman, dealer, rogue & vagabond, bohemian, shoemaker, tent dweller, trader, cryer, cooper, wayfarer, horse trader (ing), metal worker, scrapmetal dealer, artisan, coppersmith, silversmith, goldsmith, engraver, knife grinder, blade sharpener, animal trainer, bearman, dancer, fiddler, storyteller, organ grinder, tarot card, healer, weapon smith, bard, dancer, con men/man, key maker, lock maker, lock smith, trap maker, astrologer, lore maker, scroll maker, hop picker, fruit picker, season worker, nomad, caravan dweller, van dweller, horse-drawn waggon, basket maker, chimney sweep, vagrant, no fixed bode, mat maker, beehive maker, chair bottomer, sieve bottomer, tinman/ razor grinder, peg maker, umbrella maker, clogger, palmist, pavee, nomadic, Rag and bone, sojourner - Jan James Permission has been granted by Jan to do this
