    3. Brian, As far as I know these books are in the Library in Thurles. (Board of Guardians The Board of Guardian were set up under the 1838 Poor Law Act. They were responsible for the administration of the poor relief throughout the country. The minute books for Borrisokane, Cashel, Clonmel, Clogheen, Nenagh, Roscrea, Thurles and Tipperary unions are all available for consultation. The 1898 Local Government Act assigned the sanitary matters of the Boards to the newly formed Rural District Councils leaving the Board of Guardians with responsibility for poor relief. The Board of Guardians were abolished in the early 1920s and the RDCs a little later.) The above is from their Website. Here it is again. Hi all, After another quick trip to Dublin I finally managed to find the birth of Timothy Doherty in 1881. He was born in 22/07/1881, though the writing for the day is hard to read. His father was Daniel Doherty, soldier, mother was Johanna Flynn, formerly Flynn. He was born in Union Workhouse, Tipperary, and the birth was registered 11/08/1881. (3 qtr, Vol3. p160). I was hoping that I could glean more information from finding the certificate, ie, maybe a name of another relative or a townland etc, but am glad that after all these years I did manage to to find this information. Does anyone know if the Workhouse records are available? Sadly, I do know that Timothy also had a child, from his first marriage, born in a Belfast workhouse while he was in the army in 1900. Now I am concerntrating on find James Doherty (Dougherty) who was a soldier in 1920 and who may have been Timothys brother. Timothys parents Daniel and Johanna had a child Joahanna in Belfast 1889, so I think the family must have moveed north sometime after 1883 after Daniel left army. Thanks again to all of you who have helped me find information . Below are some details of other Timothy Dohertys which I have picked up and which might be useful to you. 18/06/1881: Tipperary Union, District- Golden(?)
