Hi all, My ENGLISH ancestors lived at Carhukeal (which has numerous spelling options) near Clonoulty, with records in the RC parish there and also in nearby Annacarty. Earliest known is Patrick ENGLISH who married Mary HONNERS about 1790. Mary ENGLISH, “alias ONERS” is buried in Clonoulty, so I have her dates as 1768-1831. I know of 5 children, although there may have been more: #1 Cornelius ENGLISH – eldest son, stayed on farm at Carhukeal where some of his descendants still live (well, they did when I visited in 1981) #2 Honora ENGLISH b.ca.1798 – apparently married 3 times and came to Victoria, Australia, with husband John COMANS in 1853. She died 1881. #3 John ENGLISH b.ca.1803 – married Mary CONNORS (who d. before 1855) at Annacarty in 1837. He came to Sydney, Australia, with family in 1855 and eventually farmed at Boorowa, NSW, where many other Clonoulty locals ended up. He d.1868. His daughter Grace is my g-g-grandmother. #4 James ENGLISH bapt.1806 Clonoulty. #5 Grace ENGLISH bapt.1809 Clonoulty, buried 1831 Clonoulty. I’d love to find out more about Patrick ENGLISH (ca.1765-ca.1840), who is described in records as both farmer and innkeeper. There were other ENGLISH families in Clonoulty around this time, which I’d be very keen to connect! Allan Murphy Sydney Australia
Hi Allan, I was interested in your English records. I'm not directly related as far as I know but a Con English was sponsor at the baptism of my great aunt Margaret Farrell (O'Farrell) in Annacarty in February 1862. She was born in Carhue (Carrow?) daughter of William Farrell and Mary Ahern. A Grace English was sponsor at the baptism of my grandfather John Farrell in Annacarty in 1869. Obviously not the Grace English that you mention but possibly related. I'd be interested to find out if there is a connection.
