    3. Annette, I have recently learned my gr grandfather's sister Mary MASON b. Mar 16 1845 Cloonaughter, Co. Clare m. Apr 19 1879 in Chicago IL to Michael Smith b.c. 1850 unknown Ireland. Mary immigrated c.1870. Because Mary's birthplace was so near Co. Tipperary and Co. Limerick, I though I'd post to see if you or someone else might see a connection. 3. Karen, Although I don't see a connection to your O'BRIEN and I don't have much Tipperary info for mine, I thought I'd post just in case you or someone else might see a connection or have information for me. Mary Jane O'BRIEN daughter of Patrick O'BRIEN and Mary ? was b. in Co. Tipperary c. 1850 and m. in Newport Parish Feb 28, 1870 to Matthew MASON son of James MASON and Bridget HAYES who was b. May 11, 1837 in or near Cloonaughter or Athlunkard, Co. Clare . Witnesses to this marriage were Patt HICKEY and Judith MASON. I don't know Judith MASON's relationship to Matthew and have not been able to connect Pat HICKEY, although there were HICKEY"S in the area of Cloonaughter and Athlunkard. Have learned the Co. Clare MASON's came to Co. Clare via Dublin and then Tipperary......some of the family remained in Tipperary. Mary Jane and Matthew were in Chicago IL by December 1870 when their first daughter, Katherine/Katie, was born. Siblings of Mary Jane in Chicago c. 1880's 1) Patrick O'BRIEN b.c. Mar 17 1861 in Co. Tipperary 2) Delia b.c. Aug 1866 in Co. Tipperary. These siblings may have been in New York, possibly Brooklyn before arriving in Chicago. Father, Patrick O'BRIEN may have died in New York (Brooklyn) before Mary came to Chicago c. 1880 (with Delia?). I have a undated photo of Patrick taken at Long Studio, 395 & 687 8th. Ave., N.Y., but no record of him in Chicago. Mary d.1888 and Mary Jane d.1900. Their Chicago obituaries were copied to Brooklyn, New York so I assume there were O'BRIEN family there Wish I had more to post. 1. [COTIPPERARY] Roll Call - English Family of Clonoulty & Annacarty
    2. Somerville/Murphy via
    3. Hi all, My ENGLISH ancestors lived at Carhukeal (which has numerous spelling options) near Clonoulty, with records in the RC parish there and also in nearby Annacarty. Earliest known is Patrick ENGLISH who married Mary HONNERS about 1790. Mary ENGLISH, “alias ONERS” is buried in Clonoulty, so I have her dates as 1768-1831. I know of 5 children, although there may have been more: #1 Cornelius ENGLISH – eldest son, stayed on farm at Carhukeal where some of his descendants still live (well, they did when I visited in 1981) #2 Honora ENGLISH b.ca.1798 – apparently married 3 times and came to Victoria, Australia, with husband John COMANS in 1853. She died 1881. #3 John ENGLISH b.ca.1803 – married Mary CONNORS (who d. before 1855) at Annacarty in 1837. He came to Sydney, Australia, with family in 1855 and eventually farmed at Boorowa, NSW, where many other Clonoulty locals ended up. He d.1868. His daughter Grace is my g-g-grandmother. #4 James ENGLISH bapt.1806 Clonoulty. #5 Grace ENGLISH bapt.1809 Clonoulty, buried 1831 Clonoulty. I’d love to find out more about Patrick ENGLISH (ca.1765-ca.1840), who is described in records as both farmer and innkeeper. There were other ENGLISH families in Clonoulty around this time, which I’d be very keen to connect! Allan Murphy Sydney Australia

    3. Husband is a very rare surname and usually connected to Dublin. I don't see a Dromneavane but I do see a Drumnamahane in the Parish of Uskane in Lower Ormond in Tipperary. The two would be pronounced much the same. There were White's there. 1. [COTIPPERARY] St Patrick`s Day Roll Call -- FOGARTY-BROPHY and FOGARTY-CAMPION families
    2. Andrew Fogarty via
    3. I am an Australian researcher seeking information about my great-great-grandparents JOHN FOGARTY and MARGARET BROPHY and their kin. Six Fogarty-Brophy children were christened in Templemore Catholic parish in County Tipperary during 1831-44. The first was my great-grandfather John. His entry in the baptismal register gave the family`s place of residence as Old Town Templemore. It seems very likely the father had a brother named James in Queen`s County married to Catherine Campion. For whatever reason, there seems to have been movement of members of the Fogarty-Brophy family from the Templemore area to the Durrow area in Queen`s County. My great-grandfather`s brother Michael was christened in Templemore Catholic parish in 1836 with the family`s place of residence being given as Ballaheen. Michael became a member of the British Army`s 40th Regiment of Foot, from which he deserted in Melbourne in 1858. In 1864 he married Alice Carr at Warwick in the Darling Downs area in Queensland. Michael and Alice became residents of nearby Leyburn. John and Michael`s sister Mary whose birth and christening have not been traced came to Melbourne in 1858 by the ship “Rodney” and in 1862 married Francis Arter in Melbourne. My great-grandfather John Fogarty married my great-grandmother Margaret Kennedy in the Toomevara area in County Tipperary in 1870. The marriage registration said the groom`s father was John Fogarty, farmer, deceased. My great-grandparents and their children emigrated in 1878. John Fogarty`s papers said his parents were both deceased. My great-grandparents and their children arrived in Sydney in January 1879 by the ship “Northampton”. The family reached Wagga in southern New South Wales by 1880. My great-grandfather became a gardener with the Wagga council. No other Fogarty-Brophy child is known to have come to Australia. Intriguingly, Mary Fogarty`s emigration records had her as a native of Queen`s County ( known to the Irish as County Laois ). Brother Michael`s entry in a list of deserters published in the Victorian “Police Gazette” said he had enlisted in Queen`s County. Another 40th Regiment soldier is also of interest to me. A Kieran Fogarty born in 1839 at Ballykealy in the Durrow area in County Laois served with the 40th Regiment in Victoria from 1860 until 1863 and then was in New Zealand until 1865. He eventually returned to Ireland and took a wife and raised a family. Records state that Kieran`s parents were James Fogarty and Catherine Campion. Kieran had an older brother named Andrew who became a resident of Victoria by 1861. I entertain the idea that Andrew too was a 40th Regiment man. James Donohoe`s book “The British Army in Australia 1788 - 1870: Index of personnel” says there were an Andrew, a Kerin and a Michael Fogarty serving in Australia with the 40th Regiment during the 1852-60 period.
