Kevin My g-g-g-g grandmother was a Margaret Scully from Castletownroche, County Cork. Here is what I have on her line that might link to your Scullys from Cashel. Happy hunting. Bob Meehan Dunwoody GA USA Per Mallow HC's records, William Joyce married Margaret Scully in Castletownroche February 7, 1823 with witnesses James Magner and Robert Mehigan. The only possible match I have found in Cloyne, Cork and Ross, or Tipperary for Margaret Scully is a baptism on December 14, 1802 in St. Mary's parish, Clonmel, Tipperary, with father John Scully, mother Catherine Brien, sponsors John Hearn and Maria Daniel and priest J. F. The Scullys of county Tipperary descend from Jeremiah Scully who was established at Cashel in the mid 17th century. James Scully (1737-1816) established a bank in the town of Tipperary. It would be possible John is a descendant of James but I have no corroborating information. There is also a Margaritam Scully baptized June 7, 1805, father Cornelis Scully, mother Margareta Meal, sponsors Patricius Huller and Ellena Rea, Ardfield and Radberry parish. There is a John Scully listed in the 1826 Tithe Applotment listing for Castletownroche in Castletown, land 0 acres, 0 rods, 13 perches, value one pound, ten shillings per acre, total value 2 shillings, 5 pence, a kitchen garden of good quality. This house appears to be in the center of town along with about eighty others of similar size and value. Neighbors on one side were Norry Sullivan, John Brion, Marsha Geogien, Gionias Stack and Catherine Grady, and on the other side Owen Sullivan, David Murphy, Patrick Kelly, John Desmond, and John Duane. The size of these properties would indicate that the inhabitants were probably not tenant farmers but perhaps worked at the nearby town mill. In the November 1859 Griffith's Valuation 9 Chapel Road, Castletownroche, we find Jeremiah Scully leasing a house and garden from Richard A. Oliver, Esq., of 0 acres 0 rods and 11 perches, value 2 shillings land, 10 shillings buildings, total value 12 shillings. There were four Jeremiah Scullys baptized in Cloyne Diocese from 1805-1825. However, none of them had a John as a father. Margaret Scully Joyce, a labourer's wife, died March 29, 1874 in Castletownroche of bronchitis, per William Joyce, present at death. (Record does not indicate whether this William was the husband or the son of Margaret Joyce.).

Henry Ryan b c 1846 ( Ireland), d 1897 in TIP Town and Margaret Scully b 1848 Cashel d 1909 TIP town.  (Margaret’s parents were Patrick Scully and Mary Ryan of Golden & Cashel)Henry was in Chicago between 1869 and 1870.  I’m unsure when Margaret went to Chicago but they are both recorded in the 1870 US Census in Cook County Il.I cannot find their marriage in Ireland so options are they married on the ship in Canada/ New York or in Chicago. I have not located Henry’s birth to allow me to identify his parents. The family was in TIP town from Jun 1874 onwards. The eldest child and possible the only descendant who actually remained in Ireland is the one line that I have been unable to trace descendants etc;1.    Ellen or Helena (Nellie) b 1870 (Chicago) but lived in TIP Town from 1874 till at least 1924 She married John Condon b 1867.(Parents Michael Condon & Johanna Kelly. ) in 1895 Limerick I have been unable to identify when or where either Nellie or John died. They 5 children; ·         Johanna b 1896 (Tip town) m 1914 (Dublin) Thomas Hogan b 1895 ( Parents James Hogan & Mary Roche )  they had 2 children born in Dublin Kathleen b 1915 and James b 1916.·         Michael Christopher b 1897 b TIP town·         Henry b 1899 b TIP town·         Catherine b 1901 b TIP town·         John Christopher b 1910 TIP town Henry & Margaret’s other children were;2.    John Patrick b 1872, went to Salford, England m 1918 Ellen Lamb..3.    Matthew b 1874 was in Queensland Australia never married.4.    Thomas b 1876 d 1880 in TIP town5.    Henry Joseph b 1878 d 1918 France. He never married.6.    Mary Bridget (Molly)b 1878 , emigrated to New Zealand m John Hopper .7.    Catherine (Kitty) b 1879 emigrated to New Zealand, m William Clare.8.    Denis b 1880 went to New York m Hannah McCormack.9.    Margaret (Madge) b 1882 emigrated to New Zealand. I have not been able to trace her after 1924.10.  Thomas Joseph b 1885 emigrated to New Zealand. He never married.11.  Johanna ( Josephine) b 1886 emigrated to New Zealand, m Patrick Kennedy.12.  Bridget (Bridie) b 1887 d 1890 TIP Town. Any assistance or advice especially on the Condon /Hogan lines would be greatly appreciated. Hello all, I should have been more clear about the 'how and where' regarding these death records. I did a search on the newspaper site for the phrase "Tipperary, Ireland" or "born in Tipperary, Ireland" - everything else left blank so NO surnames,. Then once I know from the obituary the person was born in Tipp I looked on the Ancestry.com for the death record. They usually just have Ireland as the birth place on the death record, no reference to Tipp. Not all states are on Ancestry. Some states do have death records online elsewhere. Dear Gary, I have to beg your pardon, as I haven't been following these posts as closely as I should. Please forgive me if I have already missed an entry for this man that you have already posted. I was thinking that I had NO Tipperary relatives dying in the USA and had momentarily forgotten my mystery. My GG Uncle Malachi/Malaky etc. GLEASON/GLEESON was recorded as dying at Providence, Rhode Island on 25 April, 1877. He was born circa 1845, almost certainly in Tipperary, but also remotely possible, in Limerick. (They lived on the border.) His parents were Launcelot/Lancelot GLEESON and Bridget BOURKE/BURKE. Is it possible you could look and see if this record is available? I would like to know if the death year given, is in fact correct and not a typo. I believe obtained all records I have, through Family Search and/or Ancestry (at my local library). Malachi GLEASON married Ellen MCCORMICK on 9 January, 1876 at Rhode Island. Fraternal twins died in infancy on 3 August, 1876. Another son, Malachi Daniel, with Malachi named as father, was born, supposedly, on 19 November, 1878. As you can plainly see, this is physically impossible. Malachi died over a year before his "son" was born. Confirmation of his death year would then allow me to focus attention on the birth of Malachi Daniel to find the truth of that. The parents of William CANTWELL, John CANTWELL and Mary REARDON were both born in Tipperary. John could have been born around 1815-18 (parents not known but father could have been William) while Mary REARDON was born in Tipperary c1818 to John REARDON and Mary ENGLISH/INGLIS. John CANTWELL and Mary REARDON were probably married in Tipperary prior to immigrating to New York, USA. After losing both her husband and daughter Kitty (Catherine) Mary and son William sailed for Melbourne, Australia, where her older brother Patrick was residing with his family and their mother. Mary REARDON's mother immigrated to Melbourne, Australia in 1853 with the only other surviving daughter Catherine. Mary REARDON died in 1866 and her parents were recorded as William INGLIS and Mary DWYER. William CANTWELL made up for being an only child by having 15 children, 13 of which survived to adulthood. James COSTIGAN, farmer, married Eliza DOUGHERTY (DOHERTY) in 1838 at the RC Church in Moneygall, Offaly. That parish covers a portion of neighboring Tipperary. The Costigans probably lived in Tipperary. Their son John was baptized at Moneygall in 1839. Their second child, William, was born in 1844 at Newburgh, Orange County, New York, USA. Cathy, Many years ago my daughter Aileen decided she wanted to work on genealogy of her 4 grandparents. I have been working with her ever since. My husband's ggrandmother was Anna Darmody (spelling varies a lot). She was born in Vermont around 1836. She married John Walsh. She died in Elma, Iowa. The Darmodys seem to have been in Wisconsin and Iowa. We have her in censuses 1850,1860,1870,1880, 1885. Where are your Dermodys from? Any of those places? I do have a membership with Ancestry and love it for searching but find the family tree stuff is not the greatest as so many people take what is in there and add on to it if it is right or not.
