Does anyone know what the usual practice would be for Irish stillbirths? Would they be entered in the baptismal register? I am trying to explain a large gap in births for some of my ancestors. In German records I have found notations of stillborns in the baptismal records. My gr gr grandmother was Bridget Hayes-Mason from County Clare - possibly from the Parteen area. Could there be a relationship? Wishful thinking on my part :) Thanks for sharing Roger! Interesting article about one of the world's longest-lived persons, who recently passed away at age 113+, in Syracuse, NY. http://www.syracuse.com/kirst/index.ssf/2015/07/passing_of_kathleen_snavely_longest-lived_person_ever_born_in_ireland_dies_at_11.html#incart_river I never had the privilege of meeting her, but the article makes me wish that I had. ~Roger H (formerly of Syracuse)
Hi, Janet: I saw in IRL TIP archives that you had posted re: a townland called Brocca. You'd indicated it was also known as Brockaghbeg, Brockeagh, Broceagh in RC parish of Terryglass, Lower Ormond, N. Tipperary. I'm searching Hogan and Tuohy from Cappanasmear/Garryard and was looking at a Darby Meara/Mara and Judy Hogan of Brocca in the RC Baptism records ca 1845. Can you tell me where Brocca was (near which other townlands), by chance? I'm finding nothing in Griffith's map search, nor Google... Thanks!! Tina P.S. Quigley surname as baptism sponsors for my Hogans, if that's of interest to you. Should you require the information these lists also include what was owned, i.e. house, lands, etc. Looking well on to the future, I also have an Index to Limerick Wills from 1858 - 1893 with copies of the wills for CoTipperary subbers who have reles into Limerick, or who think they might. I really don't know, Judy, as I only looked for Tipperary. Since Co. Clare sort of went off-line to the library website, I forget you all are there. Was a pity that happened. Wish I had the original in front of me on this one. It's very hard to read - the ink is very faded and the handwriting poor. It is also strange as for a lot of it the townland of the property for one line becomes the residence address townland for the next line. I do wonder if they skipped something and got the townlands confused. Freemen Owney & Arra 1840 2 1374 Rev. William Hanigan or Harigan, Clerk of Ballin-----? Henry J----? of Gortana & ? Rev, K----? Wanda, If you need the additional information, please write me directly and I will give it to you. Every item I have looked at has a registration date in the 1830's so far, so that is not much help. The type(s) of real estate holdings might be helpful if, for example, it is just land with no house. At any rate it will not be helpful for many people.
