    1. Re: [COTIPPERARY] RC C & E records & IFHF
    2. Patty Napier
    3. Hi, I don't know a lot about the inner workings of Ireland because I live in the U.S., so I have a question regarding this. Who are considered 'outsiders'? Are people outsiders who are citizens? Are relatives considered 'outsiders'? I ask this because I believe I still have some relatives in Ireland. My G-Grandparents are buried there and by locating them, I might possibly be able to locate living relatives because I was told in writing, by a now deceased relative, that there are still people there who are living. That was back in the 1980's so I have no idea where they would be, but they were in that area at that time. Of course, this is Tipperary, S.R. but I still would like to know the answers. I appreciate this site SO much and would like to express my gratitude to all who work so hard to put information online. Even though I am not sure I have found anything definite that pertains to my family, I thoroughly enjoy reading everything that is posted. Thank you to all of you! Patty in OK, U.S.A.

    1. Re: [COTIPPERARY] RC C & E records & IFHF - not
    2. Janet, I just wanted to let you know that I have been using the IFHF database extensively since the Limerick records went online. I can assure you that the Cashel & Emly RC records for parishes in Co. Limerick are there. Why Co. Tipp would be any different is unclear. Deborah **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. 3. Hi all, I, too, am frustrated by the new IFHF system. For example, I pulled all the Quillinan's on Limerick and am not at all surprised to find lots that I didn't have, but I am really surprised to find ones I already had missing from their database or just not coming up for some reason. Part of the problem would be the corruption of the names in the database, and I have already spotted some typos that would prevent anyone ever finding their relative. It appears then that we are dealing with the same problems that we have already found with the TFHR database. I can well understand your frustration. Having said that we are also dealing with the same copyright problems as we have battled with the Archbishop. The conclusion would seem to be the same - NOTE - Please do NOT post the identical format for the data as it is received or shown coming from IFHF as they have a perfect right to copyright their format. They cannot, however, copyright the data itself - BAPTISM DATES, MARRIAGE DATES, NAMES, ETC. If you wish to offer information, please completely change the format and do not reference where you got the information, only that it comes from a baptism or marriage record in your possession. Do not expand past the data itself. It would be best just to post the data in on of the BDM databases for Co. Tipperary. Remember the IFHF database for So. Tipp is hopeless at this point and your choices of what to pay for deceptive as so many records are just not there to choose from. So, to repeat, do not post formats under copyright to this list or we will end up losing our list. If anyone persists in trying to flaunt this, you will go on moderate and then probably get banned because I am not about to have our list in trouble. While I am on my soapbox, please also remember to change the subject of your message when appropriate and never allow the subject to be a digest heading. I don't even open those because if you don't care enough to reference your query properly, I won't care enough to read it. And snip, snip, snip those replies. For newbies - that means don't just hit the reply button and start typing. Take those few seconds it needs to delete from the message being replied to all that is not necessary to be there. The last thing I want to see is an entire days digest of messages on a reply. So - hit reply, SNIP the message being replied to if needed, and then type your heart out. If anyone has any questions about any of these matters, please reply directly to me personally, do not hit reply to this message and do not imagine for a second that we will appreciate your arguing this in public. Making your admin cranky is not nice. Putting our list in danger is not nice. Now I'll go have my first cup of coffee for today. Grrrrr. Janet

    3. Phil asked a question regarding the TFHR (Tipperary Family History Center Research - Catholic records for the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly) He received responses regarding the Irish Family History Foundation (IFHF). The IFHF is having a reduced cost search of records until the end of March not the Tipperary Family History Center. Even though the IFHF has reduced their record cost from 10 euro to 5 euro until March 31, the data that is provided is somewhat inadequate for doing an accurate searches. For example: I was looking for the birth record of my Grandmother Honora Kelly who was born about 1841in the Donohll area. A search of the IFHF provided me with 7 records for Honora Kellys who were born between 1837 and 1845 in south Co. Tipperary. So. Co. Tipperary takes in a lot of area. With no other information provided I would have to invest 5 euro on each record in trying to determine if any of them might be the right. Until the IFHF includes some additional identifiable information with their records, such as the Townland that is associated with the record, it is my opinion the current information provided is too vague to invest even 5 euro let alone the normal cost of 10 euro per record. On the subject of the Tipperary Family History Center (TFHC) I have used this service a number of times several years ago and they provided me with many records for reasonable costs. 1. [COTIPPERARY] 3-3-1838 County Tipperary Assizes.
    2. 3-3-1838 County Tipperary Assizes. A Quack. John Ryan, a stupid looking very old man, who could not speak English, was placed at the bar, charged with having bled William Ryan to death, on the 18th June last, at Baronmore. Mr. Scott. Q.C., stated that the crown would not go on with this case, but for the hope that the result of the trial would be such as would warn many illiterate persons, whom, he understood, were going about the county in the practice of bleeding. Daniel Ryan sworn--Deposed that the deceased was his brother; that the prisoner lived in his (witness's) house. Mr. Scott--Do you recollect--- Witness---I'll tell your lordship all about it; the deceased man came to my house, and says he to the prisoner, John, says he, the first turn you bled me you relieved me for 6 years. Counsel--The second turn he relieved him forever. (Laughter) Witness---But now I'm very bad again, says he, pulling out a raiser (razor) (Laughter); here, John, says he, give me a couple of tips now (Laughter);, wid that, My Lord, he gev the raiser to the prisoner, and pulled out a bottle of whiskey (Loud Laughter), and filled a glass for himself; here goes, says he, for courage (Continued laughter); then the prisoner and meself took a glass a-piece (continued laughter); the prisoner then sthrapped the raiser, my lord, and says he to the deceased, William, say he, I'll only tip wan leg now, and thry that for a week (laughter); oh! Says the deceased, I'll be in bed for a week wid wan leg, so you may as well tip every leg I have (great laughter); so wid that, my lord, the deceased tuck off his stockins and settled himself with his back to a chair, and, says he to the prisoner, John, says he, if you tip me at all now, do it well and dhraw blood. So, my lord, the prisoner took the raiser, and gave the deceased tip, tip, tip, on wan leg, (loud laughter), and then tow or three more tips on the other leg, and when he was done, the deceased turned around this way, and looked at his legs bleeding away, and says he, "Ha I like that" (Shouts of laughter). Well my lord he was standing there till he bled about a quart, and thin he fell over the chair, an was a corpse in about an hour. Dr. Bradshaw sworn-Deposed that he examined the corpse, and found the legs full of varicose veins, several of which, and one artery, were cut across, the loss of blood sustained in consequence of the wound was sufficient to cause death. Verdict-Guilty. In consequence of the mitigated circumstances of this particular case, his Lordship would sentence the prisoner to only two weeks prison, if he would promise never to attempt bleeding any one again during his life, and to caution others against the like. This he promised, but with what sincerity time only can tell. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Find the home of your dreams with eircom net property Sign up for email alerts now http://www.eircom.net/propertyalerts

    3. Did I read on this List a few days ago that the Tipperary Family History Research (TFHR) was having a St. Patrick's Day Half Price Sale on searches ordered before the end of March? I see nothing on their website about this. Is it true? Phil Buckley, Bozeman, Montana

    3. Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone. I wish I could be at the Rock of Cashel for the fireworks show on Monday evening. It should be awesome if the weather cooperates. If anyone on the list is lucky enough to be there, please give a report. Carmen D. Pittsburgh
