Hi Michael, Have you found details of the arrival in Australia? There is an arrival in 1841 on the "Larne" which lists Joseph FRANKLIN, wife Judith (RYAN) and children Mary, Bridget & John. This looks like it might be the right family and the record appears to show they were from Tipperary, Co Tipperary. See Peter Madden's site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maddenps/TIPPEM1.htm for the Tipperary Emigrant Index. Hi to all! Just a note to thank each and everyone of you who helped me to understand about Euros and a big thank you to Pete who has helped me to know more about where Bishopswood, Tipperary is located. This is the greatest site online - everyone is SO helpful and so very, VERY nice! I learn a lot, I get a good chuckle sometimes and I laugh sometimes - all because of the wonderful people on here. I had a good laugh at myself about the corn in Oklahoma because I hadn't even thought about the musical "Oklahoma" or the song and it is one of my favorites. DUH on me! Anyway, all of you are the greatest. Thank you so much! Patty in Oklahoma, USA

I really don't know a lot about corn in Oklahoma because my home is in Illinois. In Illinois I do know about corn and what I know about it is that I love to eat Illinois corn. I wanted to buy a farm, but my Dad always said NO - he had to work on farms when he was a boy. Patty, whatever value you see on the tv, add 3 cents as they are not quoting the tourist exchange value. Living off of SS, it has become very difficult living here as it is for any US person living abroad off US income (Japen, Germany, etc.). I pray for the Dollar daily now. Thanks, everyone, for your help. In searching the list archives there used to be someone (Laraine?) who was on the list and was researching this family. If you are still here, can you get in touch. You can e-mail me directly at ethierka@hotmail.com. Thanks so much! Kathleen . Part of Tipperary is in the parish of Lismore . The Tipperary Family History Research are helpful but the Waterford one is money hungary . The Tobin families are plentiful in Waterford--Tipperary and Limerick . , so good luck . Laurie Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: kathleen ethier To: cotipperary-l@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 10:37 PM Subject: [COTIPPERARY] The tale of two Ballyneales I have a little mystery that needs solving... Nicholas Comerford and Mary Dee are my 4g-grandparents. Their daughter Bridget married Michael Tobin about 1847, had a son Michael about 1848 all in Tipperary and then emigrated to upstate New York. That much of my info came from a distant cousin here in the states and I have no idea how she got it and I've never been able to find the family in Tipp. I have them well documented once they got to the states. Yesterday I found a baptismal record in the IFHF database for Michael Tobin, baptised on 29/4/1849, parents are Michael Tobin and Bridget Comerford, sponsor is John Comerford, parish is Ballyneale, family is Roman Catholic, priest was P. Power. So, I'm 99% sure this is my Michael Tobin. I found the Roman Catholic parish of Ballyneale in the Waterford and Lismore diocese and in 1846, P. Power is one of the curates and the the post town for the parish is Carrisk-on-Suir. So it seems to all make sense. However, there is a townland of Ballyneale in the Donohill civil parish and in that parish I find Nicholas Comerford in the Grifith's. I find no mention of Comerfords near Carrick-on-Suir -- but I'm also very unfamiliar with this part of Tipperary, since most of my family is from the Lattin-Cullen parish. Can anyone help shed some light on the geography involved here? Thanks so much! Hello List, I am new to list but I understand how hard it is to find records if one does not know parishes etc; Some one may be looking at this family or SKS may be able to help. Records here (Oz) are not thick on the ground with details, but this is what I have: Joseph Franklin b. c1806 Tipperary d.1882 Aust. F.John M. Mary married C1833 Tipperary to Johanna Ryan b, c1806 Tipperary d.1892 Aust. f. Patrick Ryan m. ?? (possible Johanna nee "Ryan") Known Children b.Tipperary Patrick Mary c1834 Bridget c1838 John. The family left Ireland for Aust.abt 1842,Joseph became a landholder here and named the property Tipperrary. They were of the Catholic faith. If anyone can offer assistance I would be most grateful,I would like to know more about their Irish roots. Thanks in anticpation, Michael.

Kathleen, Lattin/Cullen is almost on the western boundary line between Tipp and Limerick. Carrick is on the far eastern boundary abuting Co. Waterford. It takes me about 50 minutes to drive from Tipp town to Clonmel averaging about 50 MPH. It would take well over an hour to drive from Lattin to Carrick. I would doubt your Carrick entry would have any validity if the rest of the family clustered around Lattin. In those days it would have been a good part of a day's journey by horse and cart.
