    3. Brian, I have one more thing that might help. TFHR had told us that (your) Daniel was the son of Daniel Doherty Sr., which the dates contradicted. You now know that your Daniel was the son of John, and Daniel Sr. did have a brother, John bap. Dec. 20th, 1829 in Cummer, Kilcommon parish, son of Owen Doherty and Catherine Quigley. I have no information on John's marriage or children in my records. Your Daniel born c. 1852 could well fit as one of his children. 3. Hey, Brian, you are making some progress. Spittal is part of Tipp Town, so you know she was probably from there for sure. This would be the same woman I mentioned to you. And you know the last place Timothy was stationed, Belfast. I had no record of the son, Timothy, being born in the diocese of Cashel & Emly, but that may not be true. Since both father (and son) were soldiers, the birth could have taken place anywhere. Also, there may only have been a civil birth registration. Will you get down to Tipp Town? The Flynn family is still here. 2. Over a year ago, I learned that an archeological study was done of Ballymackeogh graveyard in Newport, Tipperary. The study was done by Dr. Pat Ryan. It was to be published last spring. I wonder if anyone is aware of this publication and can update me on its status. I am anxious to obtain a copy. I did learn that it would probably sell for 20 or 30 Euros. 1. [COTIPPERARY] 11-1-1776 From the Freeman's Journal
    2. Mary Heaphy
    3. 11-1-1776 From the Freeman's Journal. Extract of a letter from Clonmel. Last Tuesday John Power of Tullemaine, Esq., and a troop of the Royal Irish Dragoons, commanded by Capt. Keily, conducted Pierce Nagle, one of the White Boys, from Fethard, and lodged him in our gaol, they then proceeded to Waterford, in quest of others, and arrived there that night, and on Thursday following returned and brought with them Thomas Meagher, of Feathard, Shoe Maker, who had fled to Waterford to evade being apprehended. Yesterday morning was committed to Gaol by Richard Moore, Esq. Peter Hackett, of Ballynagranna, near Carrick on Suir, charged on oath with feloniously and burglarious breaking open three doors of the dwelling house of James Fowley of Carrick-on-Suir on the night of the 27th September last, with 12 or 13 others, well mounted and well armed with guns and pistols, and when they entered said house, fired several shots, and by force and violence carried away Mary Fowley, daughter to the said James Fowley, against her inclination, with the intent to marry her or defile her. "Other charges of a similar nature lie against the said Hacket, particularly for having in the night of the 14th April last, in company with several other white boys in their uniforms, well armed with guns and pistols, broke open the door of the dwelling house of John Quinlan, at Crehannagh, in the County of Waterford, when they cruelly beat the said Quinlan, and his son, for refusing to give Mary Quinlan, his daughter, in marriage to Thomas Butler of Seskin, in the said County. "John Cradock, of Red-City, near Fethard, Richard Fitzgerald of Killenaul, Thomas Fogarty, Patrick McGrath, Thomas Moreen, John Meagher, Darby Meagher, James Walsh, James Kennedy, Laurence Tierney and John Power, have also been apprehended and committed to jail, charged on oath with being white-boys, and riotously and feloniously assembling as such, and the latter with having broken open the house of Ambrose Power, late of Barretstown, Esq. and aiding and assisting in murdering the said Ambrose Power, Esq., and also in carrying out of his house sundry fire arms and ammunition. As it now seems to be determined not to transport our felons to America, a correspondent recommends the erection of a large building, where they may be kept to hard labour, the severest punishment that can be inflicted on a thief. Besides their numbers will require it, for they will soon overflow the present prisons. Mary

    3. Hi: Thanks for replying to my e-mail. I know nothing more on Thomas Reddan only as a godparent, Daniel , as far as I have been able to tell never married. I believe he\ went to some gold field near Kyneton. He was a best man at a wedding for a John Hough and Mary Hough in Kyneton. Also a John Hough was the beneficiary of Daniel's Will. I think John Hough may have been a cousin, as that was Daniel's mother's maiden name. Hope this is of some help. John Reddan the other brother was my gr grandfather who came to California and married a Sophia Gallagher. Bev Enz

    3. Hi Phil, I believe the number at the end of the barony applies to the number of male heads of families, number with each family unknown. Also unknown is the definition of a "family". Here is the bad news - Unless one's family is listed in Hart's Pedigrees, or somesuch, it is probably going to be impossible to trace a family back generation by generation UNLESS it goes back into England. Even then, the first one or two generations after the Cromwellian War in Ireland will probably be missing. One can enjoy the cites one finds throuhout history and know, at least, what some of the family did and were experiencing. As more and more comes on-line, our knowledge will grow. Do not ignore the spouses as I have learned much by tracing them back, and sometimes ...miracles happen. 2. Tom Dickson
    3. I have some info on this family James Swan Kissock married Jessie McNeillie on the 9th Dec. 1841 At Urr, Kirk., Scotland. Jessie was the daughter of Alexander McNeillie and Ann King. Alexander was a doctor in the Royal Navy and served in Jamaica. James & Jessie had 5 children, Jessie, Marion, Ann, Alexander and Margaret prior to moving to Ireland. In Ireland they had 5 more Robert Swan, Ellen, Lillie, Jane and James Swan. In 1876 James inherited some money and land in Lochrutton Scotland so he moved back to Scotland. I believe at that time several of his children left for Canada. Jessie married John Menzies and had a daughter Jessie in 1878 in Canada. Jessie and her daughter moved back to Scotland and were living with her parents in 1881. Marion married Henry Dunnet in Canada and had one child in Canada before moving back to Scotland. Ann died 2 Oct 1875 in Toronto Canada, she was married to ??? King. Alexander returned to Scotland. Margaret married Patrick Finn and moved to Canada. They ran a hotel in Orillia Ont. Robert Swan returned to Scotland and is on the 1881 census living with his parents. Ellen returned to Scotland and married William Dickson, the son of one of the renters of the land James inherited. They came to Canada in 1882. Lillie returned to Scotland. She was still single in 1901 with one child. Jane returned to Scotland and married Andrew Henry. James Swan returned to Scotland then moved to Canada after 1881. He died in Orillia in 1888. Tom Dickson
