After trying for 4 years I have managed to obtain a birth cert for one of my ancestors. Johanna Neill Is anyone going to a records center, if so Could they look up some registrations for me. I have applied to the birth of Matthew Neill/O'Neill but no record was found. He was born c 1901 as he is 4 months old on the census, and is a grandson to the head of the household. It is complicated let me explain Mary Fitzpatrick is the head Anne is her daughter both are widows. Anne has her children all Murphy surnames with her, plus Matthew Neill age 4 months By 1911 census Anne has married Edward Neill and has 2 children by him the 2 youngest b 1904 and 1906 But also are 2 other Neill children b Tipperary in 1901- Matthew and Francis 1903. But it also stated that they were married 6 years with 2 children. As Matthew is on the 1901 census I would like to find his birth cert or his brother Francis's Anyone going to the records center and can have a look to see if there are any references that I can get a cert from I would be greatful. Thanks Julie

Hello from Australia . Can anyone tell me if there are minute books for Sligo and Mayo . Thankyou for reading my request as it is not really Cotipperary but I am desparate to find anything about my Winifred Jane Nealis who left Sligo workhouse or assembly point as a famine orphan in 1848 for Australia . Hi Kathy I have checked for Eliza Mullally/Mulally/Mullaly in 1900 & 1880 US census No Eliza born Ireland just 1 born Missouri with 4 older siblings born Missouri on 1880. If there was 1890 census it doesn't seem to be on Ancstry list. Also all immigration records that Ancestry have- again no likely candidates I'm afraid just 1 Ellen with a birth year of 1871 who was travelling to a cousin named Mr Reading ----- Original Message ----- From: <cotipperary-request@rootsweb.com> To: <cotipperary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 3:46 PM Subject: COTIPPERARY Digest, Vol 3, Issue 110 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Laurie, Workhouse Minute books just address the workings of the operation and do not have information on the orphans, etc. themselves. What I would suggest is that you use Google Books and put in various combinations of search terms, like Sligo Orphans Australia List Names Winifred, etc and see what might come up. Vary them around as different combinations pull up different books. You might also try the UK National Archives (Search the Catalog) for the same. Thanks, Carole, I was almost sure she would be in the 1900 census. Sort of disappointed. Maybe she arrived soon after it was taken - as she is in Brooklyn in October 1901. .... and the search goes on! Brian, There are no records available from the Workhouse that I am aware of, except a very few administrative ones from the mid-1800's. Nothing on births. Brian, As far as I know these books are in the Library in Thurles. (Board of Guardians The Board of Guardian were set up under the 1838 Poor Law Act. They were responsible for the administration of the poor relief throughout the country. The minute books for Borrisokane, Cashel, Clonmel, Clogheen, Nenagh, Roscrea, Thurles and Tipperary unions are all available for consultation. The 1898 Local Government Act assigned the sanitary matters of the Boards to the newly formed Rural District Councils leaving the Board of Guardians with responsibility for poor relief. The Board of Guardians were abolished in the early 1920s and the RDCs a little later.) The above is from their Website. Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: "brian magaoidh" <bmagaoidh@yahoo.com> To: <cotipperary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 9:17 AM Subject: [COTIPPERARY] Timothy Doherty -Tipperary 1881 I tried sending this earlier, but it seemed that there was a problem. Here it is again. Hi all, After another quick trip to Dublin I finally managed to find the birth of Timothy Doherty in 1881. He was born in 22/07/1881, though the writing for the day is hard to read. His father was Daniel Doherty, soldier, mother was Johanna Flynn, formerly Flynn. He was born in Union Workhouse, Tipperary, and the birth was registered 11/08/1881. (3 qtr, Vol3. p160). I was hoping that I could glean more information from finding the certificate, ie, maybe a name of another relative or a townland etc, but am glad that after all these years I did manage to to find this information. Does anyone know if the Workhouse records are available? Sadly, I do know that Timothy also had a child, from his first marriage, born in a Belfast workhouse while he was in the army in 1900. Now I am concerntrating on find James Doherty (Dougherty) who was a soldier in 1920 and who may have been Timothys brother. Timothys parents Daniel and Johanna had a child Joahanna in Belfast 1889, so I think the family must have moveed north sometime after 1883 after Daniel left army. Thanks again to all of you who have helped me find information . Below are some details of other Timothy Dohertys which I have picked up and which might be useful to you. 18/06/1881: Tipperary Union, District- Golden(?) ( 3rd Qtr, Vol.3 p599) Timothy Doherty, born 18/06/1881. Father John Doherty, Ballyhhust(? ), Farmer. Mother Hanora Doherty, formerly Ryan. 21/08/1884:Killarne y No2, ( registration number is 220) Carrigeencuillen( ?), Timothy, Male, Father- Michael Doherty, Carrigeencuillen( ?)., Farmer. Mother, Johanna Doherty, formerly Donaghue. 05/12/1884: Tipperary (registration number is 13) Timothy Doherty. Father Patrick Doherty, Greenane.Farmer. Mother Julia Doherty, formerly Meagher. Patrick Doherty , father, was informant. Brian Magaoidh http://ulster. failteromhat. com/ Recent Activity 6 New Members 1 New PhotosVisit Your Group Yahoo! Christina, just a minor correction on one of the plates. The one with the label Minocue is actually Minogue. If you look at the inscription on the headstone (Rock Lodge) you will note the g in Lodge is the same as the g in Minogue. That headstone I believe is that of the gentleman who was the Rock of Cashel cemetery keeper. His son who passed away circa 1998 was also the keeper. The Rock Lodge was at the corner of the lane way that leads to the parking lot. It is directly across from the Rock of Cashel Shop. Monica Minogue (son's widow) lived in the Lodge and ran the shop until 2-3 years ago. She was in a nursing home and I don't know if she is alive. Good morning - Does anyone subscribe to Ancestry.com and be willing to do a look-up for me? I thought I would take them up on their "free" trial but I am not willing to give my credit card number and risk getting charged (going through financial hard times) I'm trying to find out when ELIZA MULLALLY arrived in the US. She was born in 1871 in Mullinahone, Tipperary. She was living at 413 Halsey Street, Brooklyn, New York in 1901 when her sister, Mary, arrived. She could be travelling with another Mullally or a Hackett. I have checked Ellis Island, Castle Garden and ISTG to no avail. Thank you in advance Kat - NJ - USA
I tried sending this earlier, but it seemed that there was a problem. 18/06/1881: Tipperary Union, District- Golden(?) We have had another donation of headstones for Rock of Cashel. You can see the additions here. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/1headstones/tipperary/markers.htm I can really use some help. If someone can transcribe at least the basics from number 11 on that would be great. For some reason the numbering the photos did not work right and some have no number. If you would like to transcribe the headstone, drop me a line so I know. filidh@carolina.rr.com Regards, Christina Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/
