Our Dwyers/O'Dwyers had the nickname Cuipear, pronounced "coopayer", meaning cooper or barrel-maker. They were farmers & lived in Curraghpoor, Donaskeigh, about a half mile from the present church in Donaskeigh, on the road to Tipperary town. I'd like to contact descendants of Patrick, his brother Thomas and cousin John. Patrick Dwyer, born abt 1818, son of Patrick Dwyer and Julia Brain (Breen? Bryan? O Brien?)). In 1858 he married Mary McGrath in Ipswich, Queensland. Patrick was indent # 186, aged 20 years, could read and write, single and Roman Catholic, from Tipperary, Ireland and a cooper by trade. He departed from Dublin on Sat 8 Sep 1838, arriving at Sydney on Sat 29 Dec 1838, aboard the "Elphinstone". He received his certificate of freedom in 1845. Looking for parents and/or siblings of LUKE AND MICHAEL OAKLEY, possibly Garrane and Aghnameadle. Betty Spelman
Seeking anyone researching John O’Connell, b ca 1825 in Ireland, son of Jeremiah O’Connell and Bridget (?). I have been unable to connect John to parents named Jeremiah and Bridget in Ireland. Emigrated to Lawrence Massachusetts ca 1846, married Mary Horan in Lawrence in 1850 and settled in Andover Massachusetts. (Reportedly John emigrated with four brothers but I have found no record of any of them.) Mary Horan was born ca 1825 in Buttevant, County Cork, Ireland and was the daughter of Charles and Mary Roche Horan. John and Mary had eight children including Bridget (Abercrombie), Charles J., William, John A., David, Arthur, George and Mary Jane (Warden). The family lived in Andover Massachusetts until John and Mary’s deaths in 1896. Reply to [email protected]

Simon Saw your message on the Tipperary rollcall. I got onto the free search site at www.familysearch.org and there are a number of Egan birth registration in the index (to get the full record you would have to order it from www.groireland.ie and if you are doing so ask for a photocopy of the entry as it gives the same information and costs less) Anyway I found the following entries Margaret Mary Egan 1923 Nenagh registration district Quarter (the records are divided into quarters of the year) Jul Sep Vol 3 page 341 Josephine Mary Egan Nenagh district Oct Dec 1923 Vol 3 page 354 By the way Carrigatogher is just about 4 miles south west of Nenagh town. See Google map http://maps.google.ie/maps?hl=en&tab=wl Also Michael J Egan Nenagh Apr- Jun 1928 Mother's maiden surname is Whelan (in later years the index shows mother'ssurname which makes the search less difficult) vol 3 page 361 ( I checked www.pilot.familysearch.org for this and scrolled down to the Irish Civil Registration Index .) For the marriage of William Egan and Mary Whelan I found a possible match Both names have a marriage entry reference of Apr Jun 1920 Nenagh District vol 3 page 442. this means that both names are on the same page and it is probable that this is the reference of their marriage but it is not 100% certain. You would have to order the photocopy to be quite sure. You might like to start with the marriage rather than the births. Hope this is of help Regards Clare Tuohy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Simon Smith" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 6:44 PM Subject: Re: [COTIPPERARY] Let's try a rollcall > Hi Janet > > Not so much a roadblock but directions required. I have not been active the last while in searching for records but have gone back to the 1700's, looking for Daniel Carroll of Drom, Ballinlonty. With the help of my sister we were able to find the old homestead and actually got to visit it before they tore it down. We also visited the Old Drom cemetery where the headstones for my great - great grandparents are and had them repointed so the next generations will be able to read the stones. I have the records of residence for the family back to 1790's but not sure where to search now. Any suggestions? Sheila Carroll Colter

Yes Carmen, and thank you. We just don't know how they are related to Colla O'Kelly, a school teacher, who lived 1690 in (or near) Dublin Towne. His was the first name mentioned in two of our oldest family bibles. Kelly is as bad as Smith when trying to track that special someone down. don ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carmen DiGiacomo" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 11:23:55 AM Subject: Re: [COTIPPERARY] Let's try a rollcall Don, I am sure you know of the Kelly's from Tipperary Town. CAREY (KEARY, KEAREY); TRACEY (TRACY,TREACY); McDOOLE (McDUELL); MANUS (McMANUS) When does a circumstantial/coincidental case become fact? My quest is to confirm/refute that the Daniel and Bridget Tracey Carey and the Martin and Eliza McDuell Tracey families who settled in Niagara County (Somerset/Hartland/Royalton/Middleport) New York in the early 1860's are the same families that are found in the Griffiths Valuation (Ballynough, Bourney, Tipperary) and Cournaganeen and Roscrea (Derrymore, and Rosemary) Parish records (1855-1860). Hi Janet and listers. Anne Lowney and Betty Egan are our second cousins, two of many, from a farm on the townland of Belleen in Monsea Parish in north Tipperary. Their grandfather Patrick Collins was married to wife one, who died in childbirth; he then married a second wife, with whom he had more children. One wife was a Gleeson woman and one was a Kennedy woman. But no one can recall which wife was which. Among all the brilliant researches on this list we're hoping one of you can tell us. A note to Janet: Louise and are spending three weeks in Puchaun (Puckane) in September, 2012. We owe you a visit. Tell is - offline - when best we can get together. Best wishes to all. Hi, all! My Tipperary brick wall goes back a bit. I guess I'm lucky to know a region, at least, but someday I'd love to figure out a townland, too. 1. My great-great-grandfather, Martin Haigney, emigrated to the U.S. in about 1852, and enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve at the federal arsenal in Watervliet, N.Y. Army enlistment records from 1854 list his birthplace only as "Tipperary, Ireland." He married Mary McMahon (or Mahon) in 1857. I have a newspaper article in which their oldest daughter is interviewed and says both of her parents were born in Tipperary. 2. I am also researching Patrick Haigney, who settled in Troy, N.Y. His Declaration of Intent says he emigrated in 1852 from Ireland, but does not specify any location. I believe he and Martin may be related. The surname has many possible spellings (i.e., Haighney, Heigney, Hagney, Higney, Hegney, etc.). I am a lurker. I just read and donât contribute. My gggrandparents and eight children came from Tipperary to Syracuse, NY (Geddes area) in 1863. The family name was Crough or Crowe or Croke or Crow (all versions used by family members at different times). I am told that one of the eight children was born in Ballyboy, Thurles, Upperchurch. They may have all been born there. I spend most of my genealogy time tracing their descendants in the US and have not yet made an attempt to locate them in Ireland. Father: Michael Crough b.1814 Mother: Margaret Hickey b. 1810 Children : Margaret b.1842 John b. 1845 Bridget b. May 1847 Dennis b. 1848 Nora or Hannorah b. 1850 Daniel b. 1851 Thomas M. b. 2 Feb 1852 Michael b.2 Jul 1854 All dates are approximate, but probably close to accurate. I would be interested if someone could steer me to a source for baptism records and the marriage record of Michael & Margaret. I would be interested in siblings of Michael Crough and Margaret Hickey and their parents. Thank you, Janet, and all the contributors for all the work you do. I have learned a great deal from your postings. Philip M. Maley
