Hello Clare, Thankyou for your knowledge, you have helped me a lot in the past few days. You may have guessed it's my first Irish research. I'll email Thurles Co Library to see if they can help with assisted passengers to Australia & see our library for Richard Reid's & purchase Helen O'Brien's book. This is great help Clare, lots to keep me going, I have been floundering around. Kind Regards, from Deirdre I haven't come across of any resource publication similar to the Donegal Relief Fund. I do know that in Thurles County Library they have a list of those who were assisted passengers to Australia 1849-61. But it is not avaliable online - you could try e-mailing them and they might do alook-up.The compiler was a Richard Reid and you may know that he co-authored a book on immigration to Australia REID, RICHARD + MONGAN, CHERYL *'A decent set of girls…': the Irish Famine orphans of the Thomas Arbuthnot'* 1849-1850 (Yass, NSW 1996). ISBN 0 646 27450 3 hardback 0 646 27449 X paperback But I don't know what county or counties are included. .There is a new publication " The Famine clearances in Toomevara County Tipperary by Helen O Brien - a study of the eviction but mainly of the village of Toomevara. If you would like a copy you can order it on this site. http://www.fourcourtspress.ie/product.php?intProductID=938 You will find the e-mail address for Thurles Library on this link http://www.tipperarylibraries.ie/local_studies/index.shtml Hope this is of some help Regards Clare

Hello Clare, I thankyou for your help again. A very interesting and terrible story about Toomevara. I am glad to have an small insight of how things were for the people. Alice married in Victoria Australia in1852, that would be the reason for her leaving her homeland. Clare, do you know of shipping of the young to other countries because of this? (as in "Donegal Relief Fund") I wonder what end came to her parents. Her father was a farmer. Are you aware of records of the temporary workhouse at Toomevara? It really helps to know about their life. Thankyou so much Clare, I appreciate this web address. thanks one and all for whatever information you may have sent on the Maher and Butler families. Although I looked at the cemeteries listed, none contained any of my family members. It is interesting, though, how often family given names are repeated over and over again. Even though families in some of the cemeteries don't appear to be related (yet), given names of children are nearly identical to ours. One problem I have had in finding the death of my grandfather's mother is that there were so many Mary Butler Maher's listed. Same goes with her husband James. It continued, of course, with the subsequent generation which contained at least six James Maher grandsons. Sorry the e-mail didn't work, Sheila, as the one listed is the one I use and receive mail through. Taking the cemetery listings with me this week, as I hope to visit the Annfield area this coming Friday.

The western edge of Garrane townland borders on Grenanstown townland, and is likewise about a half-mile from that church. Pete .................................................... I don't know if this will ever help you, but a George Bradshaw had a child with Judy Maher, Judy Bradshaw, in Pallice/Pallas, Borrisoleigh bap. 7/26/1834. I don't have any other children, nor the marriage. I have a marriage of a Patrick Butler to Margaret Bradshaw in Thurles on 2/14/1806. I also have a lot of records for the Bradshaw's of Pallas and Coolderryvrin, and you can contact me directly if you ever want them. Hello, I would like to ask for some more help please. I am so pleased to have the baptisms of Alice 'Ally' Kennedy with parents Hugh Kennedy & Mary Lahy, thanks to Clare & another. I have purchased that information showing her Baptism date of 25 February 1836, but the printed information does not show a church name. I have googled for a R/C Church in the townland of Garrane, and the Parish of Toomevara but didn't come up with a church. Does anyone know the area that they might know the name of an old RC Church that would have been in the area 1836 please. Or would a baptism in 1836 have been held at Nenagh? Thanks for reading, Regards Deirdre "Ally KENNEDY, Father Hugh Kennedy, Mother Mary LAHY, Townland of GARRANE. Sponsors Malachy Dwyre and Kate Quirk"
Joan, There are two cemeteries where the Butler's are buried. Kyleanna and the old Cemetery in Inch. If you got to this website you will find the listing for both cemeteries. Your e-mail address does not work but wanted you to know there are Butlers buried in the Old Drom Cemetery. They are within a bricked in wall and not open to the public but you can see the tombstones. This is a small cemetery and easy to find.

Joan, not much help but here is what I have in my Reardon/Hanley tree. In Co. Tipperary-Daniel Maher married to Anne Moloney: Anne Moloney was born in Feb 1875 and the child of Patrick Moloney (1844-1930) and Catherine Ryan (1850-1915). Again, not much but you never know what happens when you put something out there. Carmen D. It has been seven years since we were last in Ireland. Heading there this week and plan to make it to Annfield/Goldengrove, a very tiny area between Borrisoleigh and Thurles. That is where my Maher/Butler family lived and where my grandfather was raised. The brick wall continues with these families. I now have info on my grandfather's siblings, but know nothing of the Butler side. The families apparently lived, grew up and married in Goldengrove (Monroe/Drom parish). I have all the Baptismal info from TFHR and the marriage of James Maher and Mary Butler (my great-grandparents - 1864). James' father was Thomas and Mary's father was Edmond/Edmund. I know neither of the mothers. Have narrowed James' mother's maiden name to four women, possibly Dunne, Ryan, Benson or Butler. Names that have been associated with my Maher/Butler family and are repeated in records are, of course, numerous Butlers and Mahers, Foley(several including Johanna, Judy, Margaret, Bridget, Mary, Jeremiah) Bradshaw, Stapleton, Fogarty. It appears from census records that some of those families lived in the tiny area of Annfield/Goldengrove. Don't know if they were related, but presume the Foley family was. My grandfather Patrick and half his siblings immigrated to the US; the other half went to Scotland, Maryhill/Glasgow area. One brother, John, returned about 1909 after their father died and he and his family are listed in the 1911 census with Mary Butler Maher. John's children with Mary Bradshaw : James, Thomas, both born in Scotland and Hannah and William, born 1908 and 1911 when they returned to Ireland. They belong to neither my grandfather nor any of his siblings, as far as records have proven thus far. I believe there is a cemetery located within a mile or two of Goldengrove, and intend to find it this next Friday. Not counting on finding much new info, but my children will get to see the land where their great-grandfather was born. Would love any leads or help on this and hope that someone may have info or connections! Joan
