    3. Normally I would never recommend a pay site or allow them to advertise here, But this one appears to have added all the prisoner records and thus becomes very important to a lot of people. If nothing else, you now will know that the National Archives has all these records: ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Linda Bara <[email protected]> Date: Thu, Oct 20, 2011 at 5:13 PM Subject: [IRL-LIMERICK] Irish Prisoner Registry from 1790 - 1920 To: [email protected] Just wanted to let you know that the Irish Prisoner Registry from 1790 - 1920 has just been launched at http://www.findmypast.ie "The original Prison Registers, held at the National Archives of Ireland, cover all types of custodial institutions, from bridewells, to county prisons, to sanatoriums for alcoholics. They contain over 3.5 million entries, spread over 130,000 pages, with most records giving comprehensive details of the prisoner, including: name, address, place of birth, occupation, religion, education, age, physical description, name and address of next of kin, crime committed, sentence, dates of committal and release/decease." **

    3. Hi Jim, My husband's family is from the Kilsheelan/Kilcash parish. I believe Kilsheelan is in County Tipperary, but it's right on the border of County Waterford and Tipperary. We were there 2 years ago and visited the Kilsheelan Church and Kilcash Church. We also looked through the graveyards. While Gorman is not in my husband's ancestry (yet), he does have Shea's and Lonergan's (still need to confirm the latter). I have copied the baptismal records from the Kilsheelan/Kilcash parish for a 3-month period in the years 1870 and 1868. I will check and see if I find any Gorman's. 1. [COTIPPERARY] Researching CAREY, TRACEY AND MCDOOLE in Niagara County, New York
    2. John Carey
    3. In attempting to expand on what I was able to learn on my trip to Roscrea and Bourney, County Tipperary in July, I visited eastern Niagara County Township Clerks and Historians (Somerset, Hartland and Royalton and Middleport Village) last month. I also spent time in Lockport at the: County Clerk's Land Office (County maps and deeds) and Surrogate Court (Wills); County Historian (exceptional historical documents collection, genealogical files and the Niagara County Historical Society (genealogical files). By staying at a small B&B in Gasport I was able to have easy access to all parts of eastern Niagara County. Two observations: Historians are charged with maintaining historical files. They have LIMITED resources, sometimes not even a private, secure office. Early notification of what you are looking for can greatly improve your chances of success. Town Clerks are very protective of official records and normally will only respond to specific requests. I was not allowed to see source documents. Be prepared to give as much detail (names and dates) as possible. Other (family) names in eastern Niagara County that were of interest are HICKEY, COLEMAN, MEAGHER (MAHAR), FERMOILE, MULCAHEY, BRAY, CARY and SEAMAN. I have pictures of headstones for several of these families from St Stephens RC Cemetery, Middleport and St Patricks RC Cemetery, Hartland (Carman Road, about 1/2 mile north of Seaman Road). Types of information I was able develop: Daniel Carey - g-grandfather. Through land records and city/county directories. 1869 - Leased 5 acres, Somerset. 1870 - Purchased, from Michael Mead, 2 acres, Somerset. 1874 - Purchased, from Michael Mead, 12 1/4 acres, Somerset. 1875 - Purchased, from George and Mary Bennett, 47 acres, Hartland. 1891 - Owned 81 acres (Middleport?). Martin Tracey - g-granduncle. From Naturalization and Veterans records. Born Ireland about 1840. Emigrated 1858, to Middleport in June. Served Co F, 3rd NY Cavalry, Feb 1864 - Jul 1865; Co H, First Mountain Rifles, Jul 1865 - Nov 1865. Parents, Martin Tracey and Eliza McDoole. Naturalized 1868, witnesses Mathew Courser and John Dunn. Michael (M.E.) Carey - granduncle. From Will (Administrative record), County Directory and Historian notes. Settlement of accounts of Grocery/General Store on Towpath owed by M.E. and Patrick J. Fermoile. Distribution to heirs (includes ages of siblings/second wife). Memorial window in St Stephens RC Church dedicated to Michael and Elizabeth (first wife) Carey. Funeral procession (1906) included, amongst others, Medina K of C and Middleport police/fire departments. I have been unable to find his death certificate, obit or related newspaper articles. In particular, I am attempting to confirm his place of birth in Ireland and, since there appears to be no New York death certificate, where he died, Aug 1906. An 1878 History of Niagara County, N.Y. identifies the location of the St Patricks Church and Presbytery as being on Quaker Road near the north line of the town of Hartland. It also contains a drawing of the Church. It subsequently burned anda new sanctuary built in Barker. It was dedicated in 1915.

    2. James Gorman
    3. Hello everyone, I am new to this as I just was able to confirm that my line of the Gormans left Kilsheelan in 1854 for Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA where their 2nd son (Patrick Gorman) was baptized in 1855. Patrick's godfather was William Lonergan. I know nothing else about him but have never seen the last name Lonergan in any on my research where the Gorman's might have been until I typed in Kilsheelan into the Tipperary archive on rootsweb. I'm hoping some one will recognize this name. By the way. the baptismal record for Kilsheelan are available now at waterford.rootsireland.ie. This is where I have my break through today. Thank you, Jim Gorman
