    3. Joanne, I went through the Lattin records and they are not there. I should think they will be in the Emly records probably. Carmen may know the Riordan family. 3. Joanne, I came close but no smoking gun. My wife's Reardon's were from the townland of Balleycohey, not far from Lattin Parish. Her g grandfather Jeremiah Reardon (son of Edmond/Edmund of Ballycohey) had a brother John James Reardon who settled in Pawtucket, R. I. His wife was Johanna Dwyer from Co. Tipperary (no other details) and they were married in Providence, R.I. Edmond of Balleycohey was married in Solohead RC Parish. The Reardon's are related to the Hanley's big-time in Ireland and in Providence. Some of the Hanley relatives are buried in Mt. Bruis cemetery. If you haven't you should also be checking Reardon. If you have any other info that may bring us closer let me know. 2. I am looking for information regarding Thomas Byrnes, born about 1878 in Shrough, Mt Bruis to Patrick Byrnes and Johanna Donahue Byrnes. There were 7 Byrnes' children. I am also looking for information regarding Katie Riordan, born also around 1880 in Kilross, daughter of John Riordan and Mary Dwyer. There were 12 Riordan kids and Mike, the oldest son, inherited the farm and stayed in Ireland. I have been told that the records for both families are in the catholic church in Lattin. I have been able to find no mention of either family in Kilross, Mt Bruis, or Lattin. I think the spelling of Byrnes may also have been Byrne. Any ideas for me to pursue ? They married in CT and are traceable once in the US, but I have no leads in Ireland. Thank you-Joanne

In 1757 he left home to go to the US to make claim against some lands owned by his deceased uncle. He went to leave from Waterford but was pressed on board the Alcive, q 64 gun ship commanded by Sir James Douglas. Palliser was a 1st lieutenant on that ship and convinced Gibson to enlist. Etc.

    2. Many thanks, To Janet and Seamus for your help, it pinpoints the old and current location of Banard House beautifully, it also shows that Pastor Ville House (the home of many of the early Newcastle parish priests) was re named Boolahallagh House of which I was unaware, sadly it is now only ruins. What I still do not know is the extent of Banard, I have several references that show it as part of upper Boolahallagh and also upper Garryduff, can anyone shed further light on the boundaries of this area. Priest Towne is further to the south of Banard House. Regards, Maurie. Quoting Janet Crawford <[email protected]>: > Hi Maurie, I hope Pete has something more on this. Persons named Lahy were suspected for the outrage, between whom and the Allice's some disputes had occured. October 2nd - On this night an unihabited house, the property of Mr. Dawson at Clonbeg was maliciously attacked by some persons unknown, who broke the windows and shattered the slates and roof. The reason assigned is, that a man named Sweeny had been turned out of the possession of it. 5th October - On this night as Michael Dwyer of Crossoyle [Crossayle] was returning from Tipperary he was waylaid by 4 men at Boheratrian in the parish of Toom, barony of Clanwilliam, who beat him severely with sticks and stones and nearly knocked out his eye. He did not know any of them, nor can he assign any reason for their beating him. 5th October - On this night as Patrick Kilmaclin was returning from the market of Tipperary, he was knocked down and his skull fractured at the Cross of Scullaheen, parish of Tipperary, barony of Clanwilliam. Kilmaclin could not say who struck him, but stated that there were many persons present when he was beaten. 6th October - On this night the house of Timothy Ryan of Mohnach parish of Donohill, barony of Clanwilliam was entered by three men who robbed him of 3£ and when going away they fired a shot. Ryan did not know any of them. 9th October - On this night as John Lehane and Patrick Callaghan were on their way to attend the fair of Tipperary, they were met near Lutten [Lattin?] in this District by 3 men, one of whom was armed with a pistol, who beat them desperately with stones, and robbed them of 7£ 4s in Notes and Sikver. neither of them knew the robbers, nor do they think they would know them if they saw them again. 9th October - On this night about ten o'clock, two shots were fired into the drawingroom of James Sadlier, Esq. of Brookville, in this district, and a threatening notice, of which the following is a copy, posted on the hall door: - "Sadlier, we are listening to you this long time, and we said nothing to you; but if you don't take this warning, we will cure you. Less you say about anyone the better for you. This is the last notice you will get." A man named Burke was suspected for this Outrage, because it was reported that Mr. Sadlier would prove it was he that beat Patrick Kilmaclin and fractured his skull. 10th October - On this night a milch cow, the property of James Sadlier, Esq. was maliciously shot through the loins by some person unknown. The same reason is assigned for this as for the Outrage committed on him the night before. 12th October, 1837 - [This is another one of mine] On this evening about 6 o'clock as Mr. Henry Quillilan [Quillinan] of Ballyneal was returning from Tipperary he was fired at by 2 men armed with large pistols, who came from behind a hedge at Cappera in the parish of Donohill, barony of Clanwilliam. A slug wounded Mr. Quillilan [Quillinan] in the lower part of the belly but not severely. He did not know his assailants, nor can he assign any reason for thr attack, but thinks he was mistaken for somebody else. 13th October - On this night about three o'clock, Timothy Ahiam of Ballynard received a beating in a riot which occured in the yard of one Edward Farrel of Drishane, parish of Rathliney, barony of Clanwilliam, from the effects of which he died at 5 o'clock next morning. Two men, named Edward and John Hogan, were concerned in the homocide, and a warrant has been issued against them. 10th October - On this evening about the hour of 7 o'clock, two men armed with bayonets fixed on sticks entered the houses of James Cleeny and Michael Hurley in the townland of Crough and parish of Tipperary, and warned them not to keep any strangers in their employment. After leaving Cleeny's house they fired two shots. 14th October - On this night an altercation took place between --- Meehan and thomas Condon, when the former gave the latter a blow of a stone on the head, from the effects of which he lay dangerously ill for several days. 19th October - On this morning the dwelling house of John Foley of Bohercrow, parish of Tipperary, was attacked by some person or persons unknown, who flung stones into his bedroom window and broke 3 panes of glass. The cause assigned is that Matt Ryan, Foley's father-in-law, dispossessed some tenants on the above lands, the property of Mr. Stafford O'Brien. 19th October - On this night about the hour of 1 o'clock the house of Timothy Crotty of Shronehill in that parish and barony of Clanwilliam, was entered by an armed party who fired 2 shots therein, and they broke all the windows, and fired 3 shots into an outhouse and broke the yard gate, and then went away, warning Crotty "to share the Quarry Field, meaning a field which Crotty had lately purchased from one Philip Dwyer"; neither Crotty nor his family know anything of the party. 21st October - On this night a man named Michael Ryan came by his death at Drishane in the parish of Rathleny under the folowing circumstances: Constable Patrick Sperin having a warrant against a man named Dwyer, and hearing that he was to be found at his father's in Dreshane, he proceeded there with his party on the above night, and met the person they wanted in his father's yard. The police arrested him, but being set upon by a large number of persons who happened to be at old Dwyer's at the time, they were obliged to bring their prisoner into an outhouse to prevent a rescue. The door and windows of this [out]house were soon broken with stones by the mob, and they eventually set it on fire in order to compel the Police to liberate the prisoner; they did so and were escaping from the burning house when they were again furiously pelted with stones, and sub-constable John Skereen was knocked down senseless; upon which Constable Sperin fired at and shot the man by whom Skereen was struck; and this man was the above-named Michael Ryan. An inquest having been held upon Ryan, the jury brought in a verdict of Justifiable homocide. 19th October - On this night a notice was posted on the door of Mr. Henry Quillilan of Ballyneal, ordering him upon pain of death to turn out of his employment a man named William Corbett. This Mr. Quillilan is the person who was fired at on 12th instant and he can assign no reason for their wishing to have Corbett turned off, unless because he is a trustworthy man of his. 24th October - On this night the house of John Fanel of Ballinamorsagh, parish of Lutten [Lattin] and barony of Clanwilliam was attacked and fired into by some persons unknown, one ball having passed through the door. 5th November - On this day a man named Cornelius Brien was waylaid at Crossoyle [Crossayle], parish of Toom and barony of Clanwilliam, by two brothers named William and Daniel Freehy, the former of whom gave him a blow on the head with a stone, which knocked him down, from the effects of which he lay dangerously ill. Daniel Freehy has been arrested. 2nd November - On this night about the hour of 9 o'clock, a threatening notice was posted on a stick opposite the hall door of Mr. Sadlier of Sadlier's Wells ordering him "to have nothing to do with Mr. Shurard's herdsman." A shot was also fired at one of the parlour windows, which broke a pane of glass. Mr. Sadlier parted with a herd of the name of Dwyer and was about hiring a man named Ryan, which is the only reason assigned. 9th November - On this night a man named John Lacy was waylaid and seriously wounded with stones at Coolacassane, parish of Kilpatrick, barony of Kilnamanagh by Samuel Kearney and several others who are known. The reason assigned is that a man named Glasheen, brother-in-law to Lacy some time ago assaulted old Reilly who is father-in-law to one of the persons charged. 9th November - On this night a notice was posted on the door of George Cunningham's forge in the parish of Clonbeg, barony of Clanwilliam, ordering him on pain of death to keep "a friend" of his out of that neighborhood. The reason assigned is that Mr. Massey of Stagdale had discharged a caretaker named McDonnell and a brother of Cunningham's was about to be appointed in his place. 12th November - On this night about the hour of 7 o'clock, the houses of James Honan, Mrs. Honan, Mrs. Cronan of Ballyust, and martin Dalton of Drumnalieve, all in the parish of Tipperary, barony of Clanwilliam, were attacked by an armed party, who beat James Honan and his sons severely, broke all the windows, and fired 4 shots; they broke Mrs. Honan's door, and broke all the windows at Mrs. Cronan's; they entered Martin Dalton's house, beat him and his son, and on going away fired a shot in the yard, ansd warned them to have nothing to do with the lands of Drumnalieve. This farm belongs to Mr. Scully of Kilfeakle and is to be let, and all the above-named persons had proposed for it, which was the cause of the outrage. 12th November - On this evening, about the hour of 6 o'clock, an armed party came to the house of Mr. W. Dickson of Scallaheen, parish of Tipperary, barony of Clanwilliam,. They succeeded in robbing the house of a valuable double-barrelled gun, which they found in a case at the foot of Mr. Dickson's bed. 14th November - On this night a man named John Manirex was barbarously murdered at Bally Resteen in the parish of Sculaheadbeg [Soloheadbeg] and barony of Clanwilliam by some person or persons unknown. He was found dead by a man named Jones, lying near a heap of stones with his skull broken in several places. No clue whatever has been obtained as to who the perpetrators are. 14th November - On this evening about 6 o'clock five armed men who are unknown entered the houses of Daniel Croake, Pat Ryan and Julian Trehey in the parish of Kilfeakle and barony of Clanwilliam and ordered them not to sell any whiskey in future. The reason asigned is that these persons keep unlicensed public houses and it is supposed that some licensed publicans in the neighborhood got the party to threaten them. 19th November - On this night about half past 12 o'clock the house of Mary Roache of Rathsassard, parish of Tipperary, barony of Clanwilliam, was malicously set on fire by some persons unknown. The inmates, on perceiving the fire, immediately gave the alarm and the neighbors succeeded in extinguishing it. The reason assigned is that Roache had persons lodging in her house whom Mrs. Lamphin had working for her, and she and people named Glasheen had a falling out. The Glasheens are suspected. More to come for Bansha Janet

    2. Hi Maurie, Check out the following link. http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,614702,612942,7,7 You have a number of map options. Look in particular at Historic 6" and historic 25". Also zoom in and out slightly. On the 25" you will see Bannard House. In the same location on the 6" map you will find Pastorville Village. The 6" map is the older one dating from the first Ordnance Survey maps of about 1830. The 25" map is from the late 1800's or early 1900's. The townland is Garryduff which covers 999 acres (1.56 square miles). It is a long narrow townland running from the top of the "mountain" (926 feet) in the south to the Suir River (pronounced shure) in the north. The northern part of the townland in good agricultural land. Also check out Griffiths Valuation at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml to find out who lived in Garryduff in 1850. Best regards, Seamus, Seamus Moore, Dublin, Ireland. 3. Hi Maurie, I hope Pete has something more on this. I can find all the other towns and assuming Boulisallagh is the same as Boolahallagh and that Pastor's Villa is Priest Towne, they are all there except Baneard, which sounds more like a district name than a townland, as you guessed. Baneard would just translate out as "Beautiful height" and may be a very old name. 3. Go to ifhf site then click on centres from left hand menu, North Tipperary. You will need to join - they seem to have the marriage in 1859 - it'll cost 5 euros to get it. 3. Andy ...surely you jest? Kind Regards Kesa (ex tassy) -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Andy & Norma McAuliffe Sent: Wednesday, 28 December 2011 4:52 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [COTIPPERARY] Snip means "Delete" Hello Janet: Thank you for a wonderful job on the Tipperary site. I wish you a Very Happy New Year. Personally I think your New Year will be happier if you substitute the word "snip" with "delete". Both Limerick & Kerry sites had much more response after that change than previously. There is no "snip" button on our computers, but there is a "delete" button and I believe more of our participants will understand that. Sincerely, Andy McAuliffe, researching Fogarty and Meagher in Tipperary. Please remember to "snip" short the message to which you are replying and check the subject line. If you are on Digest mode, a reply to an individual message will repeat the entire digest unless you "snip" it, and the subject will be the Digest ID unless you change it, please. 3. If you would like to discuss a subject that has nothing to do with genealogy or Co. Tipperary on the list, please indicate that the issue is "off-topic" on the subject line so that others can delete it if they are not interested in the issue. Thanks. Janet
