I know that my 3rd-greatgrandparents first child was born and baptized in Kilsheelan parish in 1853 however the parents were born before the time baptismal records exist for this parish. What options do I have for further research on my genealogy? thank you, Jim
Just an idea that you might find useful... My ancestors immigrated to the US. I found a death record for one of the sons' that listed the names and birth places of the parents. When I followed that clue back to Ireland, I was able to make copies of original baptismal records for 11 of their 13 children. First through Cty Waterford Heritage site because my family records were held there and then when I visited Newcastle parish several years later, I was fortunate enough to be able to make copies of the original pages. It was just lucky that one of the researchers of this family found the son's death record in Wisconsin. We "cousins" have been working together for years - if you don't have the information, maybe another researcher does - or at least a clue. Good luck to you. Correct Janet. You don't have to change your service provider, just your email password. It takes about five minutes to do that. Hello All, I have come to a complete dead end in my search for Tipperary Davis family research. Of the 15 Protestant families listed on the 1766 Religious Census as living in Mealiffe/Thurles Parish, 2 are Davis'. A James Davis, with 9 family members and a John Davis, with 5 family members. Any help with search areas that may reveal how they came to reside in Mealiffe and from where they originated, would greatly be appreciated. I believe I can then confirm them to be ancestors to my Davis family living in Templemore/Killea area in 1790's-1845. Thanks Thomas Davis

As Janet mentioned, Corraun is a more common spelling. The Corraun townland in Laois is about 35 miles from your Kilcash, so I have my doubts about that. Curraun could also be a possibility. The nearest Curraun would seem to be in Co. Waterford, about 15 miles south of Kilcash. You also mentioned Ballypatrick. Ballypatrick is in Temple-etney civil parish, immediately west of Kilcash CP. It is "interesting" that the townland of Cooloran is just 2 miles west of the village of Ballypatrick. It could be that the local people in that area indulge in a bit of elision regarding Cooloran - and they eliminate the "l" sound when speaking the townland's name...... leaving us with something similar to Coraun [we have a similar situation here in W. Mass - my grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all born here, and pronounce the name of the nearby town of Dalton without "benefit" of the letter "t". They substitute somethiing like a glottal stop to replace that letter........ like all other locals.] I don't have a lot of confidence in this suggestion, of course. But it's the nearest townland which might be possible. The fact that the bride's name is mentioned with a plain "Coraun"-identifier would seem to indicate a local placename, not needing any further clarification such as another county or distant parish. For a bit of further abuse of this train of thought [gr], there are the townlands of Cloran Old and Cloran New between 3 and 5 miles NW of Ballypatrick/Kilcash, in Cloneen civil parish. Hi Annette, It is most definately a placename, but I can't find one so far in Kilcash. The usual spelling is Corraun in the townland Index. The closest one appears to be in Co. Laois in Aghaboe parish. Maybe Pete can tell us how far away that is and would Kilcash have been the closest large market town? Hi Janet, Thanks! Catherine Mason (b. 1823) was marrying Edmund Donovan from Kilcash/Ballypatrick in 1842. I assumed she was from Kilcash, until I saw Coraun? on her marriage record. Her parents were George Mason and Eliza O'Shea. Thanks, Annette > >

I finally got the tithe applotments for the Middlethird Barony (South Riding) indexed and online (Co Tipperary section of my website). This will help with your search. Just find your name, and get the civil parish. When you check the civil parish tithes, you can get the townland. Please note the following: Holycross Civil Parish is in both the North and South Riding. When I transcribed the tithes for the parish, I found only two townlands and both are in the North Riding, therefore, there are no tithes for the part of the parish that is in the South Riding. Also, the index is not in strict alpha order because I had problems getting Drangan Civil Parish to fully integrate. Sorry, this took so long, between the holidays, some health issues and my trip to Florida, I just didn't find the time to get it formatted and online. -- Pat Connors, visiting Rotonda West FL http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

Carmen, three of my Riordans settled in CT.(PJ, Nora, Katherine) and one, Michael, remained in Kilross, got the farm, and never married. I have been told that other siblings left for Australia, California, and Canada, but I have no facts relating to them. Unfortunately, I don't believe any settled in RI. I know the spelling was changed to Reardon while in CT but have not looked for the Reardon spelling in Ireland yet, but will. Any way to get information on the burials at Mt. Bruis Cemetery ? The Byrnes' family that I am also researching were born in Shrough, Mt.
